Approx Waiting Time for interview date from when the Consulate receives the package from the NVC:

It takes approx 4 weeks. NVC schedules the interview once the case is completed and sends the document to the Chennai consulates through DHL. I am not sure if they still mail you packet 3 and packet 4 anymore but i got all my info from the embassy thru the email i provided them. Plus if you do plan on rescheduling it takes 2 business days and you can get a date for which you request or the next available one.

1. DS-230 Part I (Send 2 pages back to Consulate immediately)
2. Checklist/Applicant Statement (Send back to Consulate immediately)
3. I-134 (Take to interview)

5. Instruction package for visa facilitation office (To prepare for interview)

Packet 4 mailed on 28 Feb, arrived only on 15 Mch. They also sent the same documents via email.

What forms should be send back to the Consulate?

All below items need to brought to the Embassy on the day of your appointment, it no longer as to be given to VFS, only after your approval you have to pay RS 380 for the Courier Service which is done at your close VFS center.

Obtain the following documents on this checklist with pertain to you. DO NOT send them to this office. The documents are reqd at the time of interview.

1. Passports
2. Birth Certificates
3. Unobtainable Birth Certificate / notarized affidavit from parents
4. Photographs (two color photos..)
5. Marriage Certificates (certified copy) of Petitioner and/or Applicant if one or both were married earlier
6. Divorce decree (notarized), if Petitioner and/or Applicant were married and divorced before this engagement
7. Evidence of relationship (letters, emails, photos, engagement evidentce)
8. Police Records (where the applicant resided.....*** lot of unclear info ***)
9. Court and Prison records
10. Military records
11. Evidence of support -- Form I-134 and most recent year's tax returns
12. Translations in English required.
13. Medical Examination
14. Police certification

In order to get an interview date, the applicant must give an certification that all of the above items that pertain to him / her have been gathered and are in possession to request an interview. (See 'What forms should be send back to the Consulate?')

Rs 2800 for complete General Check up and RS 2200 for three vaccination which comes around a total of Rs 5000/- But keep more so that you do not face any problem by going back to get money if anything is needed.

Estimated waiting time at the consulate on the day of interview?

Immigrant Visa interviews are done at 1:00 pm now. The lines are shorter and the wait time is around 20 mins per window, hoping that huge families are not present at the window. I was out by 2:30 pm. Once you enter all your documents are checked when your number is called. If all looks good then you go to second window for finger printing and then finally interview. I got it all done in all most an hour. Plus make sure Your DD is for the exact amount they wont take a penny more and a penny less. You can pay in cash also at the embassy.

Vaccination requirements?

No vaccinations required for K1 applicants.

Cheap and good hotels near the Consulate?

Hotel Ranjit - this hotel is in a bad state and really bad option but if you dont care its an okay choice

Additional Info?

1. Come at 12:30 pm not earlier; when you come has nothing to do with when you are interviewed, the call the token numbers at random.

2. Get your Demand Draft from any Nationalized Bank , DO NOT PAY AT HDFC ANYMORE.
