  1. She can put a temporary hold to those responsibilities, similar to applying a leave from work. So I have been told..
  2. My dad passed away, so per tradition, she now assumes full responsibility of arranging marriage of offspring (regardless of age) and deciding household expenses, among others. By overseeing business, I mean she manages the finances. She does not step into the day-to-day operations, but at the end of the day everything is reported to her and the turnover handed to her. Therefore, she has autonomy over the household and the business. The first interview was in February 2025; there was immediate availability of the interview slots after the application. Second interview April 2026. From my experience last time, there were hardly any slots available in India whenever I checked. On the rare occasion, slots were displayed, they were for more than 15 months out. I think the slot I got that was 13 months out from application date was from someone canceling. She has open invitations by my other siblings to visit, but she is reluctant. She is even reluctant to visit me, but I have been insistent. I visited her 7 months back, but I desire her to come experience my POV.
  3. I have been a USC for almost 10 years. Filed I-130 petitions for siblings 8 years back. My mother is the family matriarch in India and therefore I never petitioned an I-130 for her. She has visited my siblings in two different countries. I would like for my mother to be able to visit me too. For first time application, one of my siblings wanted to accompany her to the US so he suggested to file for both from the embassy in his country of residence. Both were denied, his understandably since he had a pending I-130. Second time, my mother was denied at the Mumbai Consulate in April 2026 despite providing a proof of her strong ties to India (overseeing family business, providing revenue sources, matriarchal duties). The officer apparently did not even glance at the evidence provided and based their decision just on the interview alone. My mother does not speak English and needed a translator. She was earnest in her responses based on how much it meant to me for her to be able to come to the US. I do not know if the officer interpreted that as a sign of desperation on her part. I am devastated at the time and effort it is taking in this process, more so because hers is a legitimate application. She would only be visiting me for a month or two and then the next visit would probably not be for a couple of years. I have already submitted a third DS-160 application, but also wanted to put this out there to seek opinions on whether it is worth the effort again and for tips that we could have missed. The interview appointment from India took place 13 months from submission of the application. I do not want to spend more than an year for another disappointment.
