The actual time in with the doctor is about 30 minutes - plus the x-ray. Well, for me it was.

Update on my case:

I received a call from Knightsbridge Doctors, telling me I really have to wait 6 weeks. No other chance but come back and do it all over again in 6 weeks.
That foreign Embassy doctors that I contacted treat a case like mine totally different was not interesting to them as you have to have a clear x-ray before they send it to the embassy.
I guess if you do your medical exam in England you can't have no chronic coughs or being a mucoviscidodis patient as you will never pass the medical.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that.

I expect if a condition is chronic and it is not TB, you'd eventually get past the medical by showing that you are not contagious and with the appropriate information from your doctor (like they seem to do with blood pressure - I don't understand why hypertension appears to be a blocker, but they always seem to send people away back to their Drs if they have it).

So I've got my medical on Thursday morning. I was cool about it but now I'm going into pre-appointment stress mode for no really decent reason. So, there's this one thing... when I was born, my hips were dislocated, so I had a bunch of procedures done on them and some operations on my right hip (I've got a bunch of scars) to correct it all. This was all before I was even at school age (I don't even really remember any of the hospital visits I was so little). I asked the receptionist if I should worry about bringing anything in about that and she said no, they were only interested in current/on-going conditions or disabilities. She's right, right? I'm not gonna get there on Thursday and have the doctor thing I'm making it up or something? I'm just feeling paranoid, I think. :/

Oh, also. When I complete the bit about medications, I read somewhere that people don't put their contraceptives. I don't take any tablets for contraceptive - I have a sub-dermal implant in my left arm. I shouldn't tick the medication box for that, right? I'll take the card that goes with it in case they ask, I guess.

While you are the first I know with infant hip operations, my logic says it's not important for your immigration. Also think about this--you will be there in person to discuss anything you are unsure of on the paperwork. That form is nothing more than maybe a discussion starter or reminder of the kind of health history you have. The form doesn't go in your immigration folder. It's not like the I-129F petition that will be decided afar. You are right there with humans to say "do you want me to list my birth control method on here anywhere?" If the doctor should see scarring on your hips and say "what is this?" you can tell the story as related to you and that you actually have no recollection of dates or procedures.

Yeah, you're right. I'm just over-worrying, I think. I'm trying to imagine what I'd say to someone else... likely, they see people all the time who had accidents or operations through-out their life that have no effect on them right now, and they have no problem with them. Must be fairly unusual for anyone to make it into their 30s without having to go to the hospital for something or other.

Thanks for replying, though. It's like my only healthcare issue. I'm pretty squeaky clean, otherwise! I'll report back after Thursday morning.

Hello,

So, I'm back! My appointment was 8:50 this morning and I was the first to be seen. I showed up early (about 15 mins early), and the receptionists were still setting up so I apologised for being early and they said no problem and I filled out their version of the questionnaire. I wanted to be a bit early so I could sit quietly and just calm a little, since I walked there from Holborn (about 25 mins walk).

On time, got called in for the x-ray. The radiologist was a jovial chap and I joked along with him. Told me to keep on my watch, but I pointed it out it was actually a pedometer (I wear a fitbit flex) and he laughed and said that would be quite the rare thing in the States. Undressed to the waist, gown on, put into position at the x-ray machine. He suggested that a pedometer wearer would likely have a good deep breath, so I did as instructed. He let me see the picture come up, and said most people breath down to about the 9th or 10th rib, and as he expected, I breathed all the way down to the 12th. X-ray looked very clear and he was happy.

Went into the second little waiting room and was called by the Doctor. I forgot her name instantly, but she had a Ukrainian or something similar accent (I'm rubbish at guessing) and had short, blonde, curly-ish hair. She was courteous and pleasant, but terse. As others have suggested, it's probably really boring doing the same routine every day, over and over.

Anyway, answered her questions, which are essentially just repeating everything on the questionnaire. I explained to her about my "yes" on hospitalisation - I had been in hospital as a baby to have my hip condition corrected, she correctly guessed it was "congenital hip dysplasia", so she was somewhat familiar with it (it's actually quite common). I assured her that I was mobile and fine now, and they put everything back where it was supposed to be. She then measured my height and weight, and had me cover each eye and read the indicated line of letters on the back of the door (with my glasses on).

Next, up on the bed having stripped off jeans, socks and shoes. Checked ears, eyes and nose. Then lay down and she checked my neck, throat, listened to my chest back and front, felt my stomach. She then raised my legs and as I expected, she found that my right leg does not have full mobility (I can't get my knee up to my chest like you normally would, and as my left leg can), did knee reflexes. Then a cursory glance down my undies.

When I got up, she had me walk back and forth across the room. She wanted to see if I had an odd walk or anything due to my hip condition, but seemed satisfied that I did not walk oddly. I was a little concerned at this point, but she seemed happy. She then had me lay back down again, did blood pressure and then took a blood sample. Then she let me get dressed again.

Sat down, I joked if there was anything wrong with me and was I dying? She said no, everything looked fine. She didn't ask to know anything else and didn't request that I bring any more information about my hip, so I assume satisfaction. I was then sent back out to the main waiting room for the vaccine nurse.

Vaccine nurse collected me, discussed my history a little and I said I think I need a tetanus, and she said yes I do! She then checked if I was K1 or CR-1 (the latter) and she did it for me right there and then. I got a receipt back for that and a copy of the vaccine record that goes to the embassy. We were talking about how everyone pretty much gets "vaccine incomplete" (because tetanus is always on-going and is never "complete") and it seems a bit silly to have that box at all if most people fall into it, but she said the only time she ever ticks the complete one is if someone can't or won't have vaccines (and has the waiver).

Finally, done again, receptionist called me up, and I paid. £235 for the medical + £35 for the jab. I was told it would be there by Tuesday and they'd only contact me if there was a problem with the blood work/x-ray. I thanked them and hoped I wouldn't hear from them, in that case. All done. Not as bad as I thought!

I have no idea why I put nose. Obviously she did not look up my nose. That would be ridiculous.
