I'm looking to fly my love to the US from Manila and I see several good flights that have stops in Japan. If we were to book one of those flights, would we need to get some kind of special visa or something for her stop in Japan? It's only a few hours at the airport in Japan. I see another nice flight that stops in S. Korea.

Not sure how that works. Any help is appreciated! :)

If you have a layover or connecting flights from Manila to US via Japan, S.Kor, you won't need a visa while inside the airport. I know luckytwo was able to get a shore visa to go outside the airport because they had a long layover in Japan. But if you are only staying inside the airport, then no need.

I fly Delta which connects via Japan to Detroit and no visa is required. Just follow the line when they herd you to your connecting flight.

No visa needed for S Korea either. As long as you have a visa for the U.S., or a U.S. passport, you can get 30 days upon arrival, if you need to leave the airport.

As mentioned, short layover, no need for anything, as long as you stay in the airport, follow the lines.

I traveled with my fiancée a few days ago from Manila to Chicago via a Narita 15 layover. I wrote our experience here, including the "shore pass" in Japan.

China, Do not layover there, If you miss your flight or have a flight delay changing planes they will kick you out of the country.
