hi VJers...

a background : my k1 visa was issued july of this year (2011) and i travelled to the US a month after that which is august 2011. i am sure and confident that my 3 year-old son's name was included in the I-129f petition. he did not come with me to the interview since he did not have a passport yet during that time. now we are planning to get him here early next year since i know he has 1 year for the follow-to-join thing.

i read a lot of topics already saying that the first thing i need to do is to contact the US embassy in Manila and let them know that my son is ready to come follow me here in the US. so i did that, the customer service rep i spoke with asked for all the information like my son's passport details, the case number which i believe is that MNL201160**** number found on the letter i got before i had my interview scheduled, my k1 visa details, etc... after that, the CS rep asked me whether my son's name is on the I-129f petition approval notice (I-797 NOA) and whether my son already got a letter from the NVC that he is eligible for an interview... so my answer to those 2 questions was NO, his name is not on the approval notice and NO, he did not receive any letter from the NVC or from the Manila Embassy that he is eligible for an interview. that made me wonder, if that CS rep really knows the steps and process of the follow-to-join k2 visa. then the CS rep had me on hold several times, saying she will check into my case, blah blah... finally, she asked for my email address and told me that they will have my concern escalated to the USCIS (???) or whatever that office she was talking about and she can't tell how long they can get a response from them, but they will email me as soon as they get that response...

sooooo i waited for about a month, no email from them, no response at all.. i called them up again, and i am 95% positive that it was the same CS rep i spoke with over a month ago... so she asked for all the information again, asked the same questions again, asked for my email ad again and promised me about that "escalate to the US office thing" again and told me to wait for their response again... i am so frustrated... we just sent money for my son's visa fee, which i thought was the 1st step we needed to do so he can have his interview/appearance scheduled.. and the CS rep even told me not to do any payment first unless we get a response from them... i already waited for over a month now... i think that that CS rep doesnt know the steps at all and is just making all these complicated... am i right??? so i hope somebody out here at VJ can help me out with this. i miss my son so much and i just want him to be here with me asap... i know all mothers would feel this way too...

your son's name would not be on the NOA2. do you have a copy of the I-129F petition to verify that your child was listed? are you calling the Immigrant Visa Inquiry line 632 301-2000 ext 5184 or 5185 at the Embassy?

should i call the manila office?

yes, I'd call the direct line to the Embassy. you have to be persistant to get thru. I had the most luck when calling about 8am Manila time. One of the first things I did was call that number to verify that my daughter's name was on file. they should be able to verify you son's name is on file. I'd also email the Embassy.

Children's names are NEVER on the NOA2 (approval) call themn back and get someone that knows what they are doing and schedule your appointment. You should be able to do it just with the MNL number. Of course you have a copy of the I-129f because NO ONE would ever send that without a making a copy and from that you can see that your son is listed because you had to list ALL childrfen whether they were coming with you or not and regardless of age.

Yes of course they can come. All my statement means is that the person the OP talked to in Manilla was wrong in asking if the names were on the NOA2, they NEVER are, it was a dumb question by the person at the consulate.

We have two sons we brought and neither was listed on the NOA2.

Your fiancee's two daughters will have medical exams and apply for visas (and pay all the fees) at the same time she does, they will be issued K2 visas.

the csr at the number she was calling is about as useful as calling a Tier 1 csr at USCIS NCSC...
