Indonesia - Middle name and Family name

 Share

Hello everyone :)

1) My wife from Indonesia and her immediate family, do not have a "family name." So what should we put in the forms of both the G325-A and I-130 boxes which asks for the "Family name"?

2) Some other people from Indonesia who have went through the visa process suggested for her to use her middle name as the family name. Is this correct?

3) GREEN CARD. The concern is that if she does not have a "family name," then on her green card, will it just contain her first name only? Or will it also contain her middle name?

This absence of a family name is really making it all so difficult and confusing for us because we are hearing two ways :(

Thank you in advance for any help.

This is what i did:

1. I have two names, okay. Example: Utha Kurniawan. First name is Utha. Family name is Kurniawan. Although actually that is not family name coz we dont use family name. So,on middle name box, i left it blank.

3. I have not have green card yet. So i dont know abt it. But i think they just gonna put Kurniawan as my family name as i got on SSN.

Hope it helps.

I am K1..

1) my name is retno satiti kusumaningrum..no family name..I put last name as the 'family name' and satiti as middle name

2) no correct or incorrent way to fill the name..just MAKE SURE all match with her ID (especially passport and birth certificate

3) for green card and SSn I use my husband last name as family name and for middle name we can choose either name after the first name..for my case I keep my middle name because many people here even cannot pronounce all my name..

Thank you both for your replies :)

My wife had already put her middle name in the MIDDLE NAME box and left the LAST NAME box empty.

I called USCIS, they said to put N/A in the FAMILY NAME box.

1) Therefore, is her G325-A form that she filled out, wrong since she put her middle name in the MIDDLE NAME box?

3) for green card and SSn I use my husband last name as family name and for middle name we can choose either name after the first name..for my case I keep my middle name because many people here even cannot pronounce all my name..

When the time comes for her green card, can my wife just simply add my last name? Or do we have to go through a legal process to add my last name as hers?

I hear you, but it wouldn't make sense if you Kurniawan as your family name because your parents will not have the same family name. Am I correct to say this?

My dad only has one name. Example: Rudini. And I put that name on his family name, and on first name i put " FNU" (First Name Unavailable) and in middle name, i left it blank. They didnt give me any problem about that.

Thank you for your reply. But now I'm even more confused because I'm hearing ways to fill out the form in different ways. When I called the USCIS, they said not to leave any boxes blank :(

GREEN CARD

What will happen with my wife's green card with regards to having a first and last name printed on it, since she does not have a "last name"?

If they asked u to not leave it in a blank, just put N/A.

We just got our Green Card last month. Me, my wife and my son don't have any "family name". We only have given name, let's say: Me-> Ali Baba, Wife-> Snow White, Son-> Mick Jagger. So, in our application we put the second names: "Baba", "White", and "Jagger" as family name for me, my wife and my son, respectively. And use "Ali", "Snow" and "Mike" as our first name.

The USCIS never bothered about the three of us having different "family names", let's alone my father's "family name" different than mine.

So, just use the last word of your wife name as her family name. Or later she can adopt your family name as hers.

Let's say her name is: Titiek Rahayu Sentosa. So, in this case, use Sentosa as her "family name", Titiek as "first name", and Rahayu as "middle name"

I had thread about family name before looked up to this thread. My father never carried last name since he naturalized to Indonesian citizen and changed his name into Indonesia language, due a dual citizenship sooner after Indonesian govt changed the rule, and my father don't want my family get in trouble because we are Indonesian/Chinese. What do you think USCIS will say about my case since on the form they ask for family name of my father?
