Hi VJ members. I found out that CFO class is necessary or mandatory as well for the K1 visa. I know that we can attend the seminar ahead of time, but we'll have to go back once we have our visa to get it stamp. However, i am wondering what exactly happens during the one-on-one counseling? Is it somewhat like an interview? Has anybody got denied or failed?.What are the type of questions they ask during counseling? Thanks everyone!

Hello! Sorry I am not in the position to say anything about CFO, but I too would like to know if I can attend that seminar while waiting for my Visa to arrive. I sure it is really necessary to get it. I would like also to have the answers on some of your questions in mind about CFO.

i suggest you to wait for the visa to arrive so you will not be going back for the sticker... nway, the seminar will take only 2-3 hours... after the seminar you will have the certificate and sticker...

the seminar is all about marrying foreign partners... for you to be aware and prepare in living in foreign country... it's culture and way of living... no denial during the interview... they will just ask you like same thing on your consul interview...

relax... and go bless!

you can google... COMMISSION ON FILIPINOS OVERSEAS... you can attend this seminar before your interview but you have to go back later and get your sticker after you received your visa. without this sticker, you cannot leave the country. they will check this at the airport. this applies to everybody leaving the philippines regardless of what kind of visa do you have.

I just had my seminar in St. Mary's last week. Decided to have it done when I receive my visa para isang puntahan lang. The one-on-one, simple lang, "How did you meet?" "When did he migrate to the US?" simple questions.

Just make sure that you know all of the information of your fiance like his home and cellphone number. They won't let you go unless you completely fill up the form.

I attended the seminar prior to my interview because I need it to change my name on my passport. It is not something that you need to pass or worry about. They will just let you watch videos of some Filipina women who married foreigner. I personally don't think it's something helpful since they only showed battered women cases. The one-on-one is just easy. They'll ask you questions about when did you meet, what's his name, where he lives... At the end, as long as you pay the fees, your good.

I have to go back when I have my visa in hand for the sticker. I recommend to just get it when you have your visa in hand so you won't have to waste time, money, and effort by going there twice.

May fiancee and I have been together for almost 6 years now. She has been my long time partner even before we immigrated in the US. Question: Does she really have to do the counseling? I remember going to the seminar, but for immigrants going to the US. I grew up in PI and moved here when I was 19. Oh well, as for now, her petition was already approved and we're still waiting for the NVC to receive our case. Cheers and good luck everyone!

yes, she'll need to attend the seminar for fiancee/spouses so she can get the sticker for her passport.

one question that seems to be asked alot at CFO. the maiden name of the mother of the petitioner.

Yes she have to do the counseling, Immigration Officers will check our passports upon boarding. If your fiancee doesn't have that CFO stickers on her passport she won't be allowed to board the plane.

Anyway I attended a CFO seminar in Cebu last October2010, They'll let you fill-in a form. Take you to a room and let you watch a video about immigrating to another country, basically it's just a pre-departure briefing. After that you'll have a one-on-one counselling. The counselor will then read your forms and just let you talk and talk about your fiancee/spouse. The counselor ask for a picture of me and my husband and she kept it and also asked for a copy of my husband's divorce decree.

On that day that I attended the counseling/seminar there was a lady who went in twice because they didn't issue her a certificate. That girl and her fiancee has a big age gap and she was only 20 yrs. old. So CFO counselors asked her to bring her Mom in along the next day. They talked to her Mom and then gave her a certificate. If you don't fall on a little complicated case then you don't have to worry. :)

Thanks! I think it won't be a problem then. I was raised in PI and she's also from PI so I'm not really considered a foreigner. lol.

You can be denied the sticker in your passport if you can not produce what ever the interviewer asks for. My wife was asked for a few pictures of us together and also a copy of my certified divorce decree. If my wife did not have those with her she would have not received the sticker. I was wise and had her take a copy of everything she took to the Embassy Interview. Also Please go to the St Marys CFO in Quezon City. Do not go to Taft Avenue because the entire process will take longer and at Taft they ask for more things. At Taft you only get the seminar and one on one and then have to go to a different place in Manila to get the sticker. Both are done at the same location at St Marys. I am not saying it will be painless coz to me it is useless and only a way for the Phils government to scam you out of additional money. The seminar only is tgo scare you to think your hubby when you get to the USA will beat you and force you into prostitution. :protest:
