Merkel's statement was already confirmed over 6 months ago by ultra-liberal (originally member of NDP-BC, now of Liberals federal) Canadian MP Ujjal Singh Dosanjh (his comments were on the failure of his own adopted country's officious multiculturalism policy)!

Integrating and multiculturalism doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. A country can be multicultural and have a cohesive population. If provided for ways and means, most immigrants would want to integrate with the culture. What Germany should do now is incentivize its immigrants to learn German. Germany can set up free or low-cost teaching centers all across the country that teaches German to those who don't know the language. It should also provide path to citizenship for those who speak German and know German history, etc. If there's no incentive, noone's going to integrate. You may say why don't they just leave? Where can they go? They were either born in Germany or they have no where to go back to. The vast majority of the immigrants don't ever go back. The move for good and hold onto their culture as long as possible.

Angela Merkel may now ###### about it, but Germany's version of multiculturalism was nothing more than let's leave these immigrants alone until we can't deal with them anymore. Then we'll just ship 'em back. For now let's just use them as cheap labor. You reap what you sow.
