Hmmm.... Kat... you said that one has to cross the border and activate the visa and THEN move the stuff? I'm curious, as i sent my stuff ahead of me, hadn't activated the visa yet. I did the upack thing, used a POD and gave them a copy of my visa page in my passport...

anywhoo.... just wondering about that.

:D

You were lucky. The border authorities could very easily have turned back the driver with the upack pod and denied him entry or required him to leave the pod in Canada. The official regulations state that your belongings cannot precede you into the US as you have not yet proven you have the right to live in the US. That is why you are supposed to provide proof of the activated visa to the transport company - that is proof that you are legally allowed to live and import your personal belongings without duty into the US. I know that the van carrying my stuff was required to show them my I-94 along with the K-1 visa - they told me they were glad I had sent it because they wouldn't have been allowed in without it. So, you were lucky :) .

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
