Consulate Review: Juarez, Mexico
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 24, 2011
Embassy Review : Hello there! I just got approved and decided that, since I got a lot of help from VJers I\'ll try to help to.

Getting to CDJ and the Hotel:

I flew with AeroMexico, and that was ok, no complains, but it was pricey. When I arrived at CDJ airport I took a taxi from there to the Hotel, it was 245 pesos and the taxi driver was really nice, he warned me about the \'coyotes\' outside the consulate and told me where the clinics were.

Hotel \'La quinta Inn\':

I loved the hotel, rooms are clean, and spacious. Everyone was incredible nice to me and the shuttle was incredible useful. They drop you wherever you need to go and pick you up when you\'re ready (just need to call the hotel reception).

Medical examination \'Servicios Medicos Fronterizos\':

I took the shuttle from the hotel at 6:00 am. When we got to the clinic they asked for my invitation letter and my passport to let me in. Once inside they checked my papers again and assign me a number. I was waiting for a few minutes when a lady came in and called the next ten numbers (including me) and told us to go to the other clinic because the one we were at was too full (the first clinic was clinica medica internacional and they sent us to servicios medicos fronterizos) once in the other clinic they called us in the same order we arrived at the other clinic. They checked my papers again and sent me to a window where I gave my papers, they took a picture of me and asked me to sign in a tablet (so they would have an electronic signature). Then they sent me to a waiting room, where males and females where separated to the the x-rays.

For the x-rays they gave each on of the girls a cubicle where we had to strip our upper body and put on a paper gown. They asked me to do my hair into a bun, and then I went to the x-ray machine, I had to put my chest close to the machine and my hands on my waist and take a deep breath. That was really fast btw.

After that they took me into another waiting room where a lady started calling names, I went inside and took a seat and wait until they took a blood sample. (This was fast too). Then they sent me to the second floor for the last exam. Once again us girls went into a different room than the boys, in that room the nurse took my blood pressure, asked me if I had had kids, or being pregnant before and then asked me when did I had my last period. *Note: if you had had children they will ask when did your last kid was born*. Then they measure and weight me, and made me wait for a little longer, until another lady called a few names and took me to a room *alone* where I had to strip completely and put on the paper gown again. *Note: I was allowed to keep my panties on*. Then the lady came in and asked for any chronic illness, surgeries, piercings, tatoos, drugs, or arrests. Then she checked my lungs and left the room so I would be able to dress up again.

Then it was back to the first floor to pay 183.5 usd for the medical examination and I was told to come back at four for the results.

I came back at four, showed my passport and my receipt and I was let in. I waited for like five minutes until they called my name again, told the lady my name and she gave me the results, in a black sealed envelope, they also attached a CD (which you don\'t have to take to the interview). Then I took the shuttle back to hotel.

Now the fun part, the Interview:

They only receive K-1 appointments from 8:00 to 10:00 so I took the shuttle at 7:30, went to the waiting room so they could stamp my appointment letter, I also rented a locker there to leave my cell phone because you can\'t take it inside the consulate.

Then I went back to the consulate, pass through a little tent where they asked to see my passport, my appointment letter and the black plastic envelope of the medical examination. They asked me to go to another line, where they checked my DS-156 and asked me if I had two copies of it, once that was done they let me in into the building.

There we went to airport security like, they gave me a box where I put all my papers and my coat (note: it was cold in the morning), after security a guard direct me to a desk where I had to show my appointment letter (once again!) and the guy asked me if I was underage \'\'and I said no! but I look a little too young for my age\'\'. Anyway, after that they direct me into the final waiting area, the boys that came alone stood on the outside waiting area (and it was cold!)and girls waited inside.

Once there we had to wait for our number to appear at the screen.. it was like a 20 minutes wait for the first time my number appeared, there I was asked for my documents, I pass them through the window thing.. and she checked them up, gave me back the I-797, the DS-160 confirmation, a copy of the DS-156K because she only needed one.

DOCUMENTS:

Original and copy of my birth certificate
Original and copy of my fiancé\'s birth certificate
TWO copies of the DS-156
ONE copy of the DS-156K
CDJ 402
TWO photographs
Appointment letter
Passport and tourist visa
Old passport and old visa

She was really nice, and asked me about how did my fiancé and I had met, she gave me back the CDJ 402 to sign, the DS-156 and DS-156K, and told me to sit down again and wait for my number.

Then my number came back again, time to pay. The fee for K-1 is 350 USD or 4450 MXN. *Note: You can pay with card, pesos or usd, but you cannot mix currencies, and you can\'t use someone else\'s card (like your fiancé\'s). If you don\'t have the full amount in one currency or if you have someone else\'s card they\'ll give you a pass to go out and get the money, then you can come back to the same line without waiting for your number to come up again.*

Well I payed, and sat down to wait again. It was a short wait, and they called me back to take my fingerprints, first left hand, then right hand and thumbs at the end... They had to take the left one twice because my hands were sweating \'\' I was so nervous!

Interview:

I waited about an hour for my number to appear at the screen again, the interviewer was a really nice woman she asked my name, and told me to raise my right hand an swear to say the truth.

She asked me how did I meet my fiancé, and then asked about the proposal, when I was done telling her about the proposal she was so moved! she even said that she was about to cry!!! I felt son happy! Then she asked about what did my family thought about our relationship. At this point I told her that I had pictures with me and I asked her if wanted to see them, and she said sure, so I gave her my pictures and while she saw them she looked so happy! she said: How much love! After she saw the pictures she gave them back to me and asked if I had ever crossed illegally to the states or had any trouble with the police, to which I answer truthfully with a no. She nod and started at her screen computer for like 40 seconds then she looked back at me, gave me the original birth certificates back, my old passport and my appointment letter back and said \'Congratulations your visa has been approved!\' I\'m sure she was just as happy as I was about this, she wished me luck and told me to go the DHL desk.

I was SOOOO happy!

DHL:

I went to the DHL desk and gave them two phone numbers, and told them where did I wanted to pick it up and I asked them how long will it take to arrive there and they said between one and five business days \'\'.

Then I went out, picked my cell phone (I lost the pass they give you, so I had to show an official ID. Crossed the street to have something to eat at the mall, and then I called the hotel for the shuttle.

So! That was my trip to the consulate!! and all the things I did while there.

I\'ll love to answer questions, if you have any.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
