Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 24, 2011
Embassy Review : We arrived at the consulate around 6:40AM. We were staying at the Holiday Inn on Sherbrooke which was about a 7 minute walk from the consulate. We were the first in line with a few others arriving after 7AM. The doors opened at 7:30AM promptly and we were the first to enter. My name could not be found on the list of appointments, but luckily they let me in as I had the confirmation with time and date of appointment. After going through security, we waited downstairs and sat in the chairs next to the elevator. We were sent up in the elevator to the 19th floor around 8AM and waited at the back of the elevator facing the opposite door that we had entered through as other VJ members have mentioned . As we were the first off the elevator, received C1 and was told to have a seat. We were called up to the first window within a few minutes of being seated. A man at the first booth gave me a little bit of a hard time about not being on the list even though I had my confirmation of appointment. He was asking who "authorized me to book an appointment", I told him I was authorized my the DOS and also received packet 4 a month prior and he finally looked up my information through my reference number. For some reason I was in the system for an August 11th appointment which was strange because I only had that appointment for about one hour before rescheduling it to August 22nd. If anything, I was surprised that my original appointment of October 19th didn't show up as I had that date for about two weeks. Luckily, he let me proceed and took my fingerprints and medical results (not the xray or vaccination documentation)and passport. We were then told to have a seat in the waiting area. About 10 minutes later, we were called up to a 2nd booth to speak with a nice woman who asked for my police clearance, affidavit of support, long form birth certificate, appointment confirmation with receipt number and letter of intent from my fiance. She asked me to review some of my previous forms and advise of any changes and sign the forms. We were also asked if either of us have ever been married or had children which the answer was "no". I had brought passport photos with me but was not asked for them as I had received a letter previously asking to submit two photos to the consulate. We were told to sit down again and were called up a third time just after 9AM. At the third booth, we were speaking to the nice woman with the dreadlocks. She gave us some of our documentation back (photos, Brian's bank and investment statements) and asked the following:
How we met
Where my fiance worked
When and how he proposed
When we were getting married

She pulled out the letter "Welcome to the United States" but did not yet say anything and stepped away from the desk. She came back shortly and said we were approved and advised that I should receive my passport within two weeks, she also wished us luck on our upcoming wedding

We were about by 9:20AM

It was a very painless experience but happy that it is over.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
