Consulate Review: Juarez, Mexico
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 24, 2010
Embassy Review : A few frustrating events in Juarez, aside from the fact that it is a very dangerous city.

1-The form DS156K is required. This form is not currently available as a pdf on the US Dept of State website so I filled it out online and printed it from the net. However we had to leave the line to re-fill it out in the proper format. Dept of State needs to make this form available online.

2-Despite having paid our $455 at the time of the I-129F filing we had to pay an additionla $350 on site at Banamax (again we had to elave the line to do this). You cannot enter the consulate without paying this so we basically had no choice despite the fact that I had the proof of my earlier payment completed at the tiome of application. This is apparently a discretionary fee at the time of the interview. But USCIS officials in the US frowned on this when I told them about it following the interview. It is basically seems like an administrative hurdle.

3-If your visa is apporved you must wait 204 additionla days in Juarez. the cionsoualte will sned the vissa to the DHOL office in jarez where you must pick it up but ehry will not send it to any toehr location outside of Juarez. Also if we had known this in advance we would have made arrangements for my fiancee to return to the US with me right after the interview/visa approval but as it stood we had already made plans for him to return to the city whrre he was living before coming to the US further delaying his entry into the US.
Rating : Poor

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
