Event Description

Embassy Review : Marina arrived at 7:30 AM in the pouring rain. Huge crowd of people were waiting. Her appointment was at 8 o'clock, so she was 3rd in line to be let in. She gave her papers to the lady in the front, who went through it. She noticed my income (which was below poverty) and asked for the sponsor's paperwork, which was given. She was allowed through at that point.

She went and sat and waited over an hour before the consulates showed up. Only two of them this time. One of them was one that denied her for her J-1 Visa back in December... Which was unexpected, and she was rather nervous. Luckily she got the other consulate, who looked over her papers for 15 minutes before calling her up.

He called her over, and started off with "What's the plan?" She told him our plans of getting married. He then asked who introduced us, when and where. When she told him the name, he seemed surprised that this particular person referred us (it was an old boss of ours from Cold Stone Creamery.)

He then said "Sorry we denied you a couple times..." (for the j-1 visa attempts in December and January.) He asked her if she had intentions to date me when applying for the j-1 visa, and she said she had. He then asked how I proposed to her. Then if she was surprised or if it was kind of expected.

He then asked when was the last time she saw me. She told him August 15th, 2008. He said "You haven't seen him in two years?!?!" and she replied "I see him everyday on skype. For at least 2 hours a day." Then she pulled out a picture of my visa (I'm traveling to see her next week, so she proved I was coming to visit.)
He looked through her previous visas and journeys to America, and asked her where she had lived for those summers. He then revealed that he was from the town we met in, so he knew exactly where we met, and knew of everything she was talking about, which was a great boost.

Then he stacked the papers and said "Your visa is approved!"

She gave it a 4 out of 5 because it took longer than she expected.. But the consulate was very friendly, and the interview only took 7 minutes.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
