Comments : My daughter and my fiance were with me during the interview. Questions were very basic. We were expecting for the worst, hence we felt as if we're floating in air when the interviewer said "your visas are approved". We are all very happy, our faces beaming with a big smile when we walked out of the Embassy.

Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 25, 2010
Embassy Review : 21 June 2010, Monday - My daughter, my fiance and myself were at the embassy grounds as early as 6am. Our appointment was at 7am. We saw several people at the covered tent near the gate; hence, we thought we could already queue. However, the guard advised us to move to the waiting area. He said he will call us when its time for the "7am appointment".
The waiting area was just a few steps away. We were greeted by several Filipinos giving information that we shouldn't bring in cellfone, iPods, colognes etc etc. I was expecting a long grueling day (not to mention possibly frustrating), so I insisted that my daughter finish the chicken burger we bought at McDonald's. I was about to gulp my cup of coffee when people started moving towards the covered tent. The guard was calling for "7am applicants". And I was dying for coffee!
It took us awhile before we finally went through the gate. There was the usual security scan. I was held up for a bit because the scanner showed some items, which to the security personnel was questionable. I was asked to confirm if I have with me a stapler, a USB drive and an iPod. Stapler and USB drive yes. I work in an office (which happens to be an embassy as well); those things I carry with me wherever I go. The lady security personnel repeatedly asked if I carried with me an iPod or a headset. I politely said no. When she repeated the question a third time, I offered that she physically inspect my bag. With that she let go. We all went to the last door, en route to the Immigration Section.
When we got at the Immigration Section, I followed the queue immediately on the left upon entrance to the room. But then the man I was following advised I should take my seat first, and wait to be called. I wouldn't have listened if not for the docs he was carrying. It was totally different from the set of docs I have. I read something that says NVC. Ok, so I guess this is a different line.
While we scouted for a place to sit, the guard called for K1 applicants. All K1 applicants where advised to sit in one place. Shortly after, a pretty Filipina who speaks beautiful Tagalog approached. She gave instructions to bring out the docs to present at the counter, where we will be given a number. I was HORRIFIED when she mentioned the 3 DS docs. I argued that the US embassy website stated that "DS-160 was meant to replace the 3 other DS docs". She apologized and explained that this was not being implemented yet. I told her I don't have the forms with me and asked where I could possibly get them. She was so accommodating and attentive, came back in a few mins with a stack of forms to fill-up.
I was thankful that the pretty girl had blank forms readily available but my hand was shaking while I wrote. More people were entering the room; I was so conscious with the time I was WASTING filling-up the forms. I finally finished the forms and ran to the counter. Unfortunately, by the time it was my turn, the girl said I need to have 2 copies of DS this and 2 copies of DS that. I want to cry... I took 2 more sets of the DS forms and went to the side (where you can find plastic bottles of glue that wouldn't squeeze). I felt it was taking me ages to write. But believe it or not, being patient helped. While I was filling-up the forms for the 2nd time, I remembered that I was suppose to write N/A and not to leave ANY space unanswered.
I was given number 7019. Waiting was something I was used to - but with a teenager on my left and my fiance on my right, my thoughts were busy on how to make them at feel at ease. I admired my fiance for being patient and very understanding. He was so supportive and followed me wherever I go. I tried to keep my daughter pre-occupied by playing stats and probability. We tried to guess how many times the 6-series would be called before a 7 or a 5 series gets called. It was an interesting way to kill time.
We waited awhile after the finger print scanning. The day felt so long until we were called to one of the side windows. A Filipina asked for my NBI, Cenomar, birth certificates etc etc. After a few questions, we were advised to take our seat and wait to be called.
Again, we played the stats and probability game. But this time, my fiance asked how many steps to go before we get roasted. We watched the video that was playing. After Step 1, it went to Step 6. Guessing that Step 3 was the Filipina lady who collected the docs, Step 4 therefore was the "decision stage". From there we observed that there were about 3-4 doors that would open and close. Most people who came out didn't look good. I even saw a group crying... they must be a family. My fiance and I looked at the Air21 counter. It seems the ratio of approved applicants were that low. We haven't seen anyone approach the Air21 counter yet. Worse, I can't seem to find any clock in the room!
We saw 7019 flash on the board. OMG! its our turn at the magical door I tried to relax my fiance by joking that either a lion or a beautiful princess was behind that door. To my surprise, I heard a man with foreign accent talking in Tagalog! "Hon, the interviewer is talking in Tagalog" I told my fiance. At first he wouldn't believe. But I proved him wrong when we were all seated inside the room. The American asked "gusto nyo ba ng Tagalog o English?" That made us feel a little at ease. We all chose English. I do suffer from mental block when a foreigner talks to me in Tagalog hahaha
The three of us were prepared for the inevitable. Deep in our hearts we expect to be turned down. But even so, we want a fair fight. To our surprise, the interview didn't turn out morbid as we projected. As a matter of fact, it came out like a social chat. We were expecting a roller coaster ride when all of sudden, the interviewer said "ok, your visas are approved. Please wait to be called in Counter Y for further instructions". He said that with a smile. We all said "thank you" and stepped out. I asked my fiance, "did he say the word approved?" My fiance replied, "I think so, he also mentioned a Counter Y".
I felt time stopped for awhile hahaha! I don't know if I want to pee, shout or what. My fiance felt the same. We only managed to speak when we got back at the hotel
By the way, our US visa packet together with our passports arrived on June 25, 2010.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
