Consulate Review: Vancouver, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : May 11, 2010
Embassy Review : My appointment was at 13:00 and I arrived about 15 minutes early and was cleared through security with ease as I had followed the instructions about what not to bring in the interview confirmation letter. I only had my binder and folders with me which they searched through and then I was on my way up to the Nonimmigrant visa floor. There were only 3 other k-1 interviews that day and I was directed to a waiting room to wait until my name was called. I was the first of three so I shared my experiences with the 2 other k-1ers after each of the procedures.

The Process:
1. Window 2:Document check: If you have everything in the packet 3 checklist, this goes relatively easily. The only thing that caught me off guard was that they asked me for a COPY of my birth certificate even though this is NOT listed on the checklist. This was not a problem in the end, as the officer just said, that’s fine. I’ll just make a copy. (done!) After all my documents were collected I was instructed to take a seat and wait for 45 minutes! Luckily I met some very nice k-1ers to kill the wait time with and calm my jitters. javascript:emoticon('')
2. Window 6: Fingerprinting: no explanation here. Lady who helped me was super nice and told me I had very nice fingerprints. Nice touch is that they have hanitizer on site as it’s an electronic pad (no ink!) I was then told to wait until my name was called, no time on how long the wait was.
3. Window 5: The officer was super nice and it was more of a conversation than an interview. I was impressed that he had taken the time to read our application and asked me very few questions other than verifying how did you meet and whether our families approve. We ended up talking about travel and running more. He then shared with me what he had written in his summary and asked if I approved and then sent me on my way to get married (oh and also to wait for his colleague to call my name to tell me when I could pick up my visa)! This process was probably no more than 15 minutes and probably would have been less if I wasn’t so chatty. javascript:emoticon('')
4. Window 2: told to pick up my passport/visa in 2 days after 2pm.

The entire process took about 2 hours. I was back at work by 3pm.

USA here I come!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
