Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 18, 2010
Embassy Review : Approved!

My fiance's interview was 17 June 2010 at 8am. She arrived at 7:00 am, and was the 3rd in line. She was called to the first window after 20 minutes. The second window called her about 45 minutes later. It was all over by 9am and she was approved! Now we are just waiting on the courier for next week (hopefully).

The only affidavit of support (Form I-134) evidence that was taken from my fiance was my 2009 tax transcript. The rest of the evidence (about 3 more pieces of information such as bank and investment statements) was glanced at, but not requested. Other than that, she supplied her birth certificate, divorce decree and police certificates (Poland and UK).

The first woman she met took the original and photocopies (and took fingerprints). The second woman who called her to a different desk returned the originals to my fiance. The second woman also took fingerprints (right hand only). And my fiance swore the oath before the second woman, who also asked some questions: (i) How we met? (ii) when did I propose? and (iii) how often have we been seeing each other? and (iv) do she intend to work in the US? Both women asked my fiance about her intended date of entry into the US.

No problems whatsoever.* (but see below for a minor niggle). She told me the interview seemed like a formality. She spent about 5 minutes at the second window. The second woman said the visa would arrive in about 5 working days and described the manner of packaging.

*The only issue was the fee. My fiance was told to pay $390, when the K-1 visa fee was $350, according to the website. My fiance asked if they were sure that was the right fee, and they said yes. So my fiance paid it. She thought maybe the extra $40 was for some sort of administrative fee. We wondered later if perhaps they made an administrative error and thought (incorrectly) that she was applying for another type of visa. I suppose we will find out when the actual visa is delivered.

All in all - a good experience!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
