Port of Entry Review
Event Date
Port of Entry : Chicago
POE Date : 2010-05-26
Got EAD Stamp : No
Biometrics Taken : No
Harassment Level : 0
Comments : The immigration agent only took a look at my package, wrote down some of the numbers inside, took an ultra-fast look at the pictures there (just to check there were pics, I guess) and said "ok". Last question: "Do you know why you're here?". Nervous, it took me 5 seconds to realize the right answer: "To get married". Good I did. He never said "Welcome to the United States". Bah.

Comments : The interview with my wife was 15' long. She asked me only my name, my dad's and my mom's, and if I came to the US to be a bad boy (you know, drugs traffic, spying, etc.) Then how we met... and that's all.

She told us the green card makes you ellegible to work directly, so my EAD card has been useful just for the 2 months it's been since I received it, till I get my green card.

When I get my green card, it will be exactly one year since we started the process applying for the I-129F. Why so many months...? I wonder what they do.

Comments : After all the experience gathered in the process, I must clarify for those of you that, like me before, didn't know clearly what was this: the AP is a document that ENABLES YOU TO REENTER (to leave, you can do it whenever you want, you're free) the US if you'd need to go back home, ONLY DURING THE PERIOD OF TIME BETWEEN YOUR APPLICATION FOR THE AOS AND THE DAY YOU HAVE YOUR GREENCARD IN HAND. Why? Because although the AP is valid for 1 year and can be used for multiples re-entries, ONCE YOU HAVE YOUR GREENCARD, THE AP DOESN'T HAVE ANY USE, as you legally reside in the US, and therefore you can leave and come back as you wish.

At least, this is what I've learnt so far fighting this endless paperwork. Hope it helps.

Consulate Review: Madrid, Spain
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 22, 2010
Embassy Review : The whole process took nearly 2 hours. They called me 3 times for my number (they give you one upon your entrance). The third one is the "interview". The woman asked me how we knew each other, if we had been travelling a lot back and forth, and... what was the best moment to purchase a ticket for the US! Not very sure if that was a tricky question. I answered seriously, though. "Everything's ok, sir"

Got my passport with the visa one week later. Woohoo!

Everything ran smoothly. I' writing from the US, already married!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
