Consulate Review: Bogota, Colombia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 8, 2010
Embassy Review : Our interview was on March 2, 2010 at the Colombia embassy. We arrived in Bogota early Monday morning on a long bus ride from Medellin. We attempted to pay the visa fee at Banco De Credito near the embassy on Monday but upon our arrival at 430pm the bank was close. The bank closes at 3pm. So we just relaxed the rest of the day. The bad news about our travel was that the buses were not running because they were on strike and same with the taxis. On March 2, we woke up at 4am to get ready to go to the embassy, we woke up early because buses and taxis were not running and we were told that it would take us about an hour and a half to walk to the embassy from where we were staying. God was with us that day because when we left her uncles house we found a taxi driver that was taking patrons. We arrived at Cipress Plaza at 615am which is where the bank is to pay the visa fee. We were second in line and just waited for 7am when the bank opens. My fiancé uncle and brother waited in the line at the embassy for us. GOD BLESS THEM BOTH. After paying the visa fee we walked quickly to the embassy, we arrived around 730am waited in line 3 for about 2mins and then were allowed to enter. Went through security, received a small green sticker with #40 on it and went to line 40. In this line we received a folder where we had to organize everything they wanted in it. After completing we went back up to the counter where a lovely female checked it and took it into her possession. She then told us to sit and wait for our name to be called. We took this opportunity to go get breakfast from the little cantina. After eating we went back to where we originally were. After sitting their for about 20 minutes. We were called to window 31. We got to the window where a lady was reviewing our folder and all the documents that I first sent in. I was told to take a seat while she spoke with my fiancé. I then took this opportunity to go to the restroom. when I got back my fiancé was wrapping up with the female at window 31. My fiancé came over to me and informed that the lady was very impressed with the neatness, clarity, and how everything was filled out correctly. She told my fiancé that our application was the best the she has seen in a long time. She then informed us that we needed to go sit near windows 2 through 5 and wait for our name to be called.

We started waiting at the consulate section from 9am to about 1230pm, we witness many people being denied their visa. Its sad when you see some one go on with a smile on their face and walk away sad with their passport in hand. Note to all if your visa was approved the embassy keeps it, if not approved they hand it back to you. Well we waited for what seemed like eternity. As I was telling my fiancé that we should just go because I think they forgot about us, our her name was called to window # 4. We both went to window # 4 with my big bag of evidence “Pictures, Phone records, Applications“. My fiancé was asked to pick up the phone which is how you speak to the consulate. She was asked a few questions

Where I was born--- Answered Correctly.
How old I was--- answered correctly.

The phone was then passed to me were I was then asked a series of questions

My fiancé Name?
My name?
What kind of work I did?
My work title?
How many kids I had- This was asked repeatedly
How many kids my fiancé had- also asked repeatedly
My fiancé ex husbands name?
When was she divorced?
If I new about her previous marriage before we were engaged or after-- this was asked many times in different ways.--I gave the same answer.
Why didn’t I put she was divorce on the 129f application? Asked multiple times.
How many times she applied for a visa? I responded that she attempted to get a B2 visa in march and was not approved.
He asked me who she was visiting and I told him that It was I she was visiting if she had received the B2 Visa. He then stated that I have a good memory because I remembered the date she applied for the B2
Asked if she had family in the USA,… I stated she had a aunt, and nothing more.
I was then asked to hand back the phone to her where she was also asked about any family in the USA.
I guess she heard my answer and answered the same only one aunt .
We were then told that her visa was APPROVED She was so excited. I just wanted to get out of their before they said hey we made a mistake. We then went over to Domensa and paid the visa fee and then quickly walked towards the exit.

The consulate never looked or asked about any of the evidence that I brought “ NOTHING”.
He did give me back the pictures that I sent in with the initial Application.

My fiancé gave me a big kiss as we exited the embassy.

Later that day we headed back to the bus terminal to go back to Medellin.
We arrived back to Medellin early on March 3rd. I was suppose to leave back to the USA that afternoon.
But because my fiancé misunderstood me I missed my flight. We arrived at the airport in rio Negro at 2pm, which is when the airline considers you late. I decided not to worry because I new I was late and nothing else I could do. So I went ahead a bought another ticket for Thursday. Which I am happy I did because I got to spend a extra day with my fiancé and her family. I did make my flight out the next day.
Now I am hear anxiously waiting for my fiancé to arrive.

My overall experience with the whole K1 Fiancé process has been very good.
I would say pay attention to all of the documents, communicate with your fiancé about what is happening and what they need to do. Completely everything in a timely manner and accurately. Be patient Take all sorts of evidence of relationship even if it is not needed.
My embassy experience was GREAT no complaints.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
