Comments : Two Issues Resolved – IR1 Visa in Paris (2025) Sharing my experience in case it helps others going through the same process.

1. AVITS Website Marked Me as “Not appeared for appointment.”

I attended my visa interview on May 21, but the AVITS appointment website showed “Not appeared for appointment.”
No reply from the embassy, AVITS support replied once but no follow-up.
In the end, my visa was Issued, so the AVITS status didn’t matter.

2. CEAC Status “Refused” After Interview

After the interview, my CEAC status stayed on “Refused” for over 3 weeks while they waited for my medical file.
Contacted a congressman on June 8, got a CEAC update June 11, then Issued on June 12.

Consulate Review: France
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 13, 2025
Embassy Review : I recently applied for an IR1 immigrant visa at the U.S. Embassy in Paris. After my case was approved by the NVC and an expedited request was granted in early May 2025, I had my interview at the embassy on May 21, 2025. The consular officer was professional and informed me that my visa was “Approved,” pending receipt of my medical file.

Despite my doctor confirming that my medical file was sent on May 13, 2025, my case remained stuck with no updates from the embassy. I sent several emails between May 22 and early June but received no response or clear information about my situation.

Due to this lack of communication, my American wife contacted a Congressman on June 8, 2025, to try to resolve the issue. It was only after her intervention that I saw progress: my case status changed from “Refused” to “Ready,” then to “Administrative Processing,” and finally to “Issued” on June 12, 2025.

In summary, the interview and the expedited processing via the NVC went smoothly, but the complete lack of communication after the interview and the inability to get any answers without outside intervention were very stressful and are areas that the U.S. Embassy in Paris should work to improve.
Rating : Moderate

POE Review: Atlanta
Event Description
Entry Date : 2025-06-17
Embassy Review : I entered the U.S. on an IR1 visa through Atlanta International Airport. I arrived around 9 PM, so there weren’t many people at immigration. Since it was my first entry, I went through the line for foreign nationals — the other line was for U.S. citizens, Canadians, and green card holders.

The CBP officer didn’t ask many questions, just “Who is your wife?” and “Do you have a packet for me?” I handed him the documents I had, but he didn’t even look at them. He just told me everything was fine. I asked if he would stamp my passport, and he said no, that it wasn’t necessary.

So I assume that now, my IR1 visa has been activated and serves as the temporary I-551 (proof of permanent residency).
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
