Consulate Review: Manila, Philippines
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 21, 2025
Embassy Review : My wife had her Official interview yesterday 21 April 2025. It was a very good experience. She was called to window 67 greeted by a very female interviewer. She was very prepared and took all documents that were previously uploaded. We were worried because she had changed her passport to her married name which wasn't the name used on her application. This was not a problem as long as you bring both passports to the interview. The interviewer ask very basic questions such as:

1. Where did you meet your husband?
2. When did you get married?
3. Why do you want to immigrate to the US?
4. Where will you be residing in the US (Town, Address)
5. Do you have children?
6. Have you ever been denied a visa in the past?
7. Was you husband previously married?

The entire interview took 10 minutes. The only document that they ask to see was a divorce decree with an official notary seal, which she had. After that they ask for her her old passport and the new passport with her married name. The interviewer left the window and came back with 2 white slips of paper and said your immigration visa has been approved, we will process you passport and paperwork and send to your home address. My wife did see several folks being interviewed that were not approved due to being unprepared and were handed a pink slip of paper. All in all the experience went well.

Timeline:
Stayed at the Bayview Hotel which is walking distance to the US Embassy -- 5-8 minute walk,
Interview time was 0830
Arrived at the US Embassy at 0745; went through security check points then was pre-screened prior to being interviewed.
Interviewed around 0915
Left the Embassy at 1000

HOT HOT HOT ---- 2 item that you should be prepared to show if ask at the embassy interview is a CENOMAR -- Advisory on Marriages. This is different the the original CENOMAR you had originally submitted in your initial application. Additionally if your spouse had a name change since the original application make sure your spouses PSA background check state AKA (married name and madden name) Lastly. after the embassy interview and your spouse receives their visa they will have to attend a CFO Appointment https://cfo.gov.ph/ prior to departing to the USA. . Many immigration officials at NAIA and Clark have not let immigrants depart the country if they can't produce the certificate.

HOT HOT HOT --- At the CFO appointment your spouse will need to show a clean background check of the petitioner from your local police department in the USA. They are easy to obtain, I did mine in San Antonio, TX, It was completed in 15 minutes, and it cost $36 with the notary.

I hope this information was helpful.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
