We arrived at the Newark CIS building at 10:40AM for an 11:00AM appointment. After passing through security and taking the elevator upstairs, we showed our Interview letter to a woman at the podium. We then went to Window #2 to check in. We were pleasantly surprised that the waiting room actually had seats to sit in.
For those of you that had to waited for biometrics at the application service center you know what I mean. The application service center was appalling. The area where you check in and wait to go upstairs was filthy. You'd think that someone could at least sweep and mop the floors every once in a while. It would have made a great place for a haunted house.
But back to the waiting room...The waiting room was full of people. We did not get called into our interview until 2:00pm for an interview appointment at 11:00AM!! After having our names called by our IO we went back to his cubicle to begin our interview. The interview began with the IO looking through our file. He started out asking us questions about how we met and how we started our relationship. He asked us what kind of things we would do together on our first few dates. It was pretty funny because we both keep answering the questions with the same answer at the same time, which seemed to impress IO as well as amuse him. It was pretty funny how that just sort of happened. Anyway, we answered all the questions correctly. After he was done with the questions he told us that he knew our marriage was legitimate, but he had to have additional evidence in order to justify his decision. One of the big sticking points was that we couldn't provide him with the lease to our apartment. I am living in New Jersey on a one year temporary duty assignment. As part of my relocation package, we live in a company provided and payed for apartment. The apartment is in my companies name. So he typed up a letter requesting additional documentation and printed it out and gave it to us. When we got home we put together a folder with about 20 printouts of photos of us together, 2007 tax returns, insurance beneficiary documents, confirmation from PSEG on signing up the electric in both our names, and various other mail addressed to us at our home. We sent him the information and now we wait. We are unable to check on the progress of our case because the IO took our letter with our receipt number. The USCIS does not seem very good at updating our progress anyway. Hopefully this review will serve someone else to make their experience more pleasant. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
