Consulate Review: Belgrade, Yugoslavia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 25, 2025
Embassy Review : Both my fiancée and I were allowed to attend, we emailed the embassy before the interview asking if petitioner could accompany the beneficiary and they allowed it. There was not a long line and the process was smooth. Officers were professional and asked us both reasonable questions such as how we met, where we live, employment. etc. Visa was approved.
Rating : Very Good

Local US CIS Office Review: Chicago IL

Event Description
Review Date : July 2, 2025
Embassy Review : Appt was at 9:45 AM at Chicago FO, there weren't many people ahead of us, maybe like 3-4 people were called until it was our turn, I'd say we waited like 10-15 minutes, which is much faster than I expected. The interviewer was a nice young lady, glad we didn't get a grumpy one. We were sworn in and asked to produce our IDs and passports (I had both and my wife only had her foreign passport, interviewer said that was OK), the interview notice, and the certified marriage certificate (which we were given back.) We also mentioned that we got an updated medical since the overseas was missing some vaccines so the sealed envelope was opened and scanned in. Those were the only documents we had to provide physically, the rest was uploaded online (of course, we still brought physical copies to the interview just in case).

The interviewer said that since we already did a K1 interview we won't have to go through bona-fide marriage evidence stuff, and just asked us how and when we met, and where we live. Then we moved on to the I-485 review, asking the standard Qs, like were you in any orgs, are you a terrorist, etc. The only one of note was that my wife was denied a tourist visa (it was just a standard denial) so she was asked the details on that and it was updated to include the reason, and the update was signed by my wife. We did mark it as "yes" on the application, but the system wants details at the interview apparently. We were also asked who the joint sponsor was. And that was it I think, we were told that the case was approved, that we'd get the GC within a month, and mentioned the removal of conditions process. My wife asked some questions (I don't remember what her Qs were exactly) but interestingly I remember the interviewer checked and responded that the case was not being held for review (we were not given the sheet either) and that we can expect an approval status that day or the next day.

And that was it, interview lasted like 20 minutes maybe. So we were in an out within 30 or 40 minutes.
Harassment Level : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
