Consulate Review: Mumbai, India
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 8, 2008
Embassy Review : I am posting on behalf of my fiance, who actually took the interview, therefore this is a secondhand review. I asked him to be very specific when he told me how it went - so here goes

He arrived at the Stars & Stripes Lounge at 6:45am. There was a small line of about 8 people already formed. He got in line and at 7am they were able to go inside. He was given a ticket for the 7:30 shuttle that takes them to the consulate.

Once inside the consulate, he was called at about 8:30 to a window. An Indian woman asked for his PCC which was not submitted at the VFS office and the Demand Draft. She handed him a wooden token and asked him to wait for his name to be called. Unfortunately his name was not called until 2:15pm. He said he was very tired and bored. He did have a book, but you know you can only sit up and read for so long! The TV only had Cartoon Network on, so he was getting antsy at this point!

His name was called over the loudspeaker, in his native Guajarti. He went to the window and there were two women. The American Interviewer asked if he spoke English. He replied, "of course." So then the Interviewer told the woman next to her that she didn't need her services.

Questions that were asked:

How did you two meet?
What does she do for a living?
Where does she stay?
Does she have siblings?
Where do her parents stay?
What did she study?
Why do you want to get married there?

Then she asked if he had any photos. He handed her them. He then asked her if she wanted to see emails from him and my mom...she said yes...so he handed them to her and she said nice. She also saw our Reception Hall receipt. (We booked a hall for 4/25/09). She said - Oh I see you have a hall for 4/25. That is a problem. He asked why - she said because you have to get married in 90 days. He replied, yes I know, which is why we are doing a courthourse marriage right away, then in April, we will do a ceremony so my relatives can attend. That is the only time they are able to come. She said, oh very nice. Your visa is approved.

She then looked at her watch and said that since it was later in the day the visa might not be ready for pick up. He said he'd hang around and check.

Unfortunately it wasn't - so since it is a holiday tomorrow, he will pick it up on Friday.

So a successful interview!!!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
