My fiancé was not allowed to proceed to the in-person interview because he had to provide an additional turberculosis test. He had to stay for 3 days after his initial clinical exam on May 4, 2024, and then we had to wait until July 10th for the results. We then got a new visa interview appointment for 8-15-2024. He went to that interview and during the 2nd part (the actual interview), he receive a 221g Administrative Processing status form with no clear instructions. However, it magically cleared up (possibly it had something to do with his medical exam results not arriving on time -- we may never know the reason) on 8-23-2024 and the status changed from REFUSED to ISSUED.
Note that we never received any email or confirmation that the visa was issued, I just happened to check the next day. |

Both our biometrics date and our in person interview were rescheduled (two separate events) which was very frustrating.
After our interview, we received an RFE and submitted the requested one document about 2 weeks later. Once USCIS received it, the almost immediately approved his greencard (the next day, I believe).
Lots and lots of delays and false starts but in the end, things worked out luckily! Couldn't be happier that this process is basically over (well, until the removal of conditions in 2 years!). |

My fiancé said that the interviewer didnt even smile once. She asked for a certain number of basic documents and even when he asked "how are you?" she didnt even respond. He asked if she had all the documents that she needed and she said, "maybe." Then she said they couldn't approve his visa... no explanation, no further info. nothing. He had received the dreaded "221G" form -- which is immigration purgatory -- with NO EXPLANATION.
We sat for 5 very long days completely disappointed and totally worried, wondering if he would ever be able to cross the border -- I was thinking we'd have to get married in Mexico and start the whole terrible process all over again. Then at 5pm the Friday after the interview, I checked the website one more time before the weekend, and his status had unceremoniously changed from "REFUSED" to "ISSUED." The K-1 visa was delivered to the US consulate the following Wednesday or Thursday.

Timeline Comments: 1
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
