Consulate Review: Frankfurt, Germany
Review Topic: General Review
Event Description
Review Date : October 4, 2024
Embassy Review : Had my interview at the Frankfurt consulate today and thought I would share my experience.

Timeline:
- CR1. USC petitioning for German citizen spouse
- PD February 2023
- I-130 approved January 2024
- DQed February 2024, original embassy Ankara
- Transferred case to Frankfurt on 08/07/2024
- IL received 08/19/2024
- Medical 09/24/2024 in Berlin
- Interview 10/01/2024

Interview was scheduled for 8:30. Arrived at consulate shortly before 8:00. Long line already present. Was directed to Window 1 where they processed my passport and handed me a number. Waited in security line for about 20 minutes. Security was thorough but quick. They collected phones, smartwatches, headphones and the like and handed out receipts for them.

After security, I was instructed to proceed across the courtyard to the next building and take a seat in front of windows 15-21. When my number was called first, it was for document check-in. They required the originals of
- my birth certificate
- marriage certificate
- divorce decrees of previous marriages
- police certificates
- I-864 (!)
- most recent petitioner tax transcript
- petitioner employment letter

I also had my fingerprints taken and had a small discussion with the lady at the window who suggested I leave my passport with them until after my second wedding anniversary in December (or come back to Frankfurt after that) so they could print the visa directly as IR1. I asked to have it issued as CR1 as it was my understanding it could be stamped as IR1 by CBP if I first entered the US after the two year mark. After conferring with her colleague, she agreed.

Then I waited for another 20-30 minutes until I was called for the interview itself. I was asked to take an oath and my fingerprints were checked again. The questions were about how I met my husband, where we were planning to live, what I was doing for work, my previous marriages and if I had children. All very relaxed.

At the end, the officer told me me visa was approved and I would receive it back in about a week.

When I checked visa status about eight hours after the interview, it was already Issued. I received my passport back with the visa on October 4.

The whole experience was very smooth and relaxed.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
