Consulate Review: Mumbai, India
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : July 14, 2023
Embassy Review : I reached the interview at 6:00am because I live an hour away from the consulate and didn't want to tale any chances. If you live near, it's better to reach around your appointment time because I had to stand in the pouring rain and get soaked from top to bottom. *I nearly had a heart attack when my sealed medical examination result got soaked wet and got torn*
Anyway I entered the consulate around 7:30am after waiting in the line for 15-10 minutes in the pouring rain. Inside, I chose English as my preferred language and a guy give me a token at the counter. When my token was called, I went and gave my documents without any hassle. The Indian man at the counter asked me a few questions about my case details. After that, I had to go back to the waiting area to wait for my token call for the consular interview. I waited for about 2-2:30 hours and it was not a very nice time for my nerves because I see from people getting rejected even among the immigrant visa applicants and it brought some of my past trauma up (I got rejected once for a B2 visa). During the long wait, I also notice which consular officers looked easy going and which consular officers are tightly wound up so I was waiting and praying that I get the easy going consular officers. And Praise the Lord! The one easy going officer called me to his counter and thus started my sweet and short interview.
He asked me: a) Who is calling you?
b) Where does your fiance live?
c)Is he in active service? What branch is he in and how many years has he been in the army?
d) When did you first meet?
e) How many times has he visited India?
f) You guys went to Maldives? Who paid for the trip?
g)How many times have you met?
h? Have you met your fiance's parents? What are their names?
I) How old is your fiance? How old are you?
j) Why did you guys wait so long to get married? (I've been waiting 2.5 years)
And that was it. I answered everything to my best and thankfully, since I practiced answering all of these questions before my interview about 10 times already, everything came out automatically even though I was trembling although I don't know if it's because I was nervous or my whole clothes was wet as a rag.
Anyhow, it lasted for about 10 minutes tops and he said my visa application is approved and wished me well on my journey ahead.
Now off to plan a wedding which we don't have money for!!!
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
