Consulate Review: Ankara, Turkey
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 13, 2023
Embassy Review : I waited outside the embassy around 20 minutes due to the line. You shouldn't bring any electronic device, bag or liquids, they ask you to leave it somewhere outside. After I went in, they asked me for my documents. Then I waited for like an hour. Even though I told them I can speak English, the interview was in Turkish. It was more like chat than an interview. He asked about my fiance's job, where he lives, how we met etc. He was very kind and didnt ask too many questions. The interview took around 5 minutes.

Also, I printed the scanned version of the letter of intent to marry and it was no problem.

Hello how did you get your interview date if you don't mind me asking. I called the embassy and there is no way to pay the MRV Fee and no available appointments We call and they say no available appointments If there's a number you all used to schedule the interview interview won't mind having it Thank you in advance

I was trying to get appointment for more than a month. I called the embassy and check the website like 100 times a day and there was no available appointments. Yesterday, a slot opened and I scheduled immediately. There is no other way to schedule than checking the website constantly because the officers dont know when the slots open either.

Hi Feyza. My fiance's VISA left to Ankara recently as well and we just had some questions. Can you confirm that it only took 5 days for your guys' visa to ship to the embassy for you to receive packet as it says on your timeline. Can you describe for us again how long it took for you to find an interview appointment. You said it took more than a month. Did list off how many days? Thank you in advance
Feyza on 2023-03-03 said:
Hi, yeah the embassy received the case pretty quick. They sent us an email when they got it. Then we tried to schedule interview. A day later, there were slots but I couldn't pay on time so I couldn't schedule it. Later for a month, it was written "No Appointments Available" on the website and nothing else. No dates and any information about how long it might took. You just have to check it every day, every hour. Also, they didn't accept my Turkish credit card I don't know why. So I used my fiance's US card.

Amazing thank you for your prompt response. Did you choose the earliest interview slot you could find? If not, how soon could you have booked the appointment from when the interview dates came online
Feyza on 2023-03-04 said:
I just chose the earliest one when it came online. You can see it monthly, but in my case just one day was left. But I guess when people cancel their appointment new slots open.

Hey Feyza!!! How did it go!! Hope you guys were approved!!!
Feyza on 2023-03-07 said:
The embassy canceled all the appointments for today. They said due to technical issues, the embassy will be closed today and we need to check our mails :((

Feyza on 2023-03-13 said:
Thank youuu They just want to know if you really know your fiance. Just be comfortable and answer the questions. They're very helpful and kind. No need to get stressed.
Inveigh on 2023-03-13 said:
Hey friend, can you go over the questions that were asked to you or your fiance?
Feyza on 2023-03-14 said:
The questions: - What's your name? - Are you married, are you engaged? - Where you married before, was your fiance ever married before? - What's your fiances name? - Where does he live? - What's his job? - Did he go to school, where? - Did you finish school, where? - Does he live with anyone? - How did he become citizen? - What are your plans when you go there? The officer was from the city my fiance lives, so we talked about that for a bit. Then he told me I guess that's all, returned my evidences and said Iyi yolculuklar (have a good trip), you will receive your passport in a week.

Hi Feyza, First congratulation for your visa and have a safe trip. can you tell me what time exactly you found a slot open? for example in the morning, evening ... around what time? I tried to schedule an appointment for more than four months. Thanks for your response.
blank avatar LaythZahraa on 2023-03-14 said:
I have one more question, did you tell the officer , you are engaged. is it okay to do party for the engagement?
Feyza on 2023-03-14 said:
I scheduled it around 5 pm but I don't think that matters, it can open anytime. The officer asked me if I was engaged, and I said yes. We made an engagement ceremony at the house it was more like "söz" in Turkish traditions. I brought a picture on that day and it was okay. But I think it's better not to mention it too much. I wear a wedding band as the engagement ring on my right hand which is also a tradition here for engaged couples. But I didn't wear it at the embassy to not draw attention.

Hello Feyza, I had a question. For the IRS document did you take your fiance's tax return paper that they filed with IRS or did they get a transcript from IRS sent to them for you to take?
Feyza on 2023-03-30 said:
He got the IRS transcripts for two years. Also we had a sponsor, his mom, she also sent me the IRS transcripts. They asked me for her ID though, which I didn't have but it was no problem.
blank avatar ShaMo on 2023-03-30 said:
Thank you, I was also wondering about the letter of intent to marry, did you create a new one specifically for the embassy or did you take the one you had sent originally to the USCIS processing, to the embassy interview?
Feyza on 2023-03-30 said:
I created a new one but everything was same with the one we sent to USCIS, except the date and the receiver address.

Hi! My case is currently in transit to the embassy in Ankara, Turkey. Is it okay to file DS-160 at this time and then schedule an interview date??
blank avatar I Love Coffee on 2023-03-31 said:
and do I get to upload the documents on the ceac website (birth certificate, passport, etc) or do i just take the documents to the interview??
Feyza on 2023-03-31 said:
You can fill out the DS-160 if you think anything won't change about the information you provide. Do not schedule an interview before you receive an email from the embassy or they say it'll be rejected. You don't have to upload anything to the website, you're going to bring the documents to the interview.
blank avatar I Love Coffee on 2023-03-31 said:
Thank you so much for your response. Do I need to submit original I-134 with wet signature or can I submit scanned copy of the documents?
Feyza on 2023-03-31 said:
You can submit a scanned copy

Dear Feyza, How long you get the passport back? What time you get it from ptt. Which ptt if you don’t mind. We have an emergency and we should get the passport back. Thank you.
Feyza on 2023-05-09 said:
Two days after the interview, PTT sent a text saying they received my passport and I should take it in three workdays. It was Cankaya ptt.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
