Consulate Review: Armenia

Embassy Review : It's hard to summarize the experience my fiancee had at the embassy in Yerevan. I accompanied my fiancee to the interview, so I can provide some first-hand experience of the whole ordeal. The guards at the gate were ok, and were helpful after speaking to them a bit and being as nice as possible--I guess they aren't used to having Americans visit them.

The interview process was mixed, and this will sound horrible, but it is the whole truth, so help me.
The American counselor was fantastic, and everything you expect from us (Americans): helpful, kind, patient, listened to my fiancee, and treated her with the utmost respect. She and I are extremely appreciative of that counselor, and have nothing but the highest respect for him.

Here's where it becomes a bit one-sided: Having been to Armenia once before, our expectations were a bit mixed, but the Armenian staff at the embassy solidified a negative notion. The Armenian staff inside were curt, impatient, nearly threw papers back at my fiancee that she handed them (she slid them in a slot under a glass divider, and they shoved them in an impolite manner back at her), and asked for documents that they said they do not need immediately after being handed those documents. It's safe to say that they are definitely not on their "A-game," which is an extremely sad thing to say considering all the new high-end and luxury vehicles I watched each person pull up in. The lack of professionalism clearly wasn't from lack of compensation/salary.

If you do go to Armenia, make sure to toughen your skin a bit.

For two people wanting to marry, the length of time for any action on this type of visa is very long.

This is such a depressing journey... The application is just sitting and collecting dust for a whole year, then finally, someone looks at it! I hope things go fast and smooth from here 👏🏾👌🏾

Congratulations!!! Even if it was hard and took so so long, you made it! I hope you can enjoy some peace and less worrying now. :)

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
