Consulate Review: Ethiopia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : December 16, 2022
Embassy Review : Simple straightforward interview. My fiancé arrived at the embassy around 6:20am for a 7:30am appointment time. He was asked to provide DS 160 confirmation page, proof of paid visa fee, interview instructions, birth certificate, marital status paper, police report, and 2 passport size photos before the actual interview.

Questions:

1. How did you two meet?
2. (I met him when I went to his moms funeral) the officer asked how does she know your mom?
3. What does she do for a living?
4. What do you do for a living?
5. What are your wedding plans?
6. (We had a wedding date booked) officer said can you provide proof of that? Then he said never mind I don't want it.

Then the officer asked for the photo album that my fiancé had with him. He was flipping through the pictures when he stopped on one of my fiancé's little brother and I and asked, who is this? After that interview was done and my fiancé was approved. Passport was received with visa about a week later.
Rating : Very Good

Did you schedule your own interview?
blank avatar Lidiahxo on 2022-11-14 said:
Hi, yes I did. I received no email from the embassy. Once my case status showed ready I completed the DS-160, created my account, and waited for the embassy to release the payment and interview slots.

The instructions said not to do so, but all members of my embassy were able to do it this way. It is very embassy specific so be careful with your own.

Yeah I went to register my appointment and it said "DO NOT CONTINUE" unless the Consolate instructs you or your appointment will be canceled. I don't think you received that message...

I did receive that message and put that I acknowledge that I received instructions even though I didn't. Your best bet is trying to find people from your specific embassy who bypassed the rules and succeeded. I was comfortable doing so because many people before me did the same thing and succeeded. I would be hesitant if I didn't see others before me succeeding. It really depends.

Can you imagine. I have reached out to others but no response. Anyways I appreciate your feedback. May all go well for you

Hey. When did you receive your case number? I never received one. I submitted multiple Public Inquiries about it but no response. I finally heard back last week from an email i sent aand instead of responding back with my case number, I was told my case was forwarded to the Embassy on August 2, 2022! Almost 4 months ago and I was never notified! I don't know ow how I am to follow my case if no one will give me my case number. Not sure how my fiance is to fill out the DS-160 and schedule an appt if I can't follow my case.

Hi! I received the email from NVC notifying me that my case was sent to the embassy. It was sent on august 30 and my case number was in it, I didn’t have to do anything. I would send an inquiry with no other information except asking for your case number, maybe that’s why. When you put a lot of questions or information they tend to not answer all. Or you can email the embassy explaining. Is the NVC phone line still shut? If so you would just have to try via inquiry. I hope you do get it soon

They should have emailed the petitioner when it sent so check spam, everything for the email on the day they said they sent it.

Hey Lydia, How long did it take for you to find an available appointment/interview slot? Do they release slots daily/weekly or is it random and how far ahead was the interview slot when you book it? Thank you in advance!
blank avatar Lidiahxo on 2023-08-18 said:
Hi, they released it monthly when I was waiting for it. It is random and they do not notify you. The appointments are usually for 1-2 months in advance. You should be checking as often as you can, good luck.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
