Consulate Review: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : July 14, 2021
Embassy Review : The consulate is very easy to reach in Amsterdam by car. There is ample parking space (paid) and close to major tourist attractions. After entering you'll go through security. The guards are very relaxed and are really kind. I felt zero stress whatsoever.

After security you'll be asked to take place in a room with four windows. There were four other visa applicants in my timeslot. It's first come first serve in your timeslot. The person at window one asks you for the required documents, such as DS160, passport pictures, police records and birth certificate. You're then instructed to take your fingerprints. All of this went extremely smooth and was done for everyone in minutes. After a few minutes people are being called to window 3 where the actual interview will take place. The consular officer was extremely kind and nice. The benefit (and perhaps also a con) of having multiple applicants in the same room is that you can hear other people's story. The CO was extremely kind to everyone. She makes eye contact and although she was wearing a face mask, you could see that she was smiling. She was genuinely interested in your story. I think this really puts a lot of people at ease and if your relationship is real, she'll 100% know. My interview was basically just a conversation with the CO. I talked a bit about myself, about my fiancée and even some personal things. She approved me on the spot, but did tell me my medical had not arrived yet, so it might take some extra time. I only showed the proof of ongoing relationship, because she was genuinely interested in me (also happened to the person before me).

My appointment was at 2 pm, I was in at 1:45 pm. The interview took about 15 minutes (but only because we were just chatting about the weather, my relationship and just random stuff). I was out by 3:15 pm, I believe.

All in all I had a great experience. Felt extremely comfortable and being nervous really isn't necessary.
Rating : Very Good

Event Description
Review Date : June 2, 2022
Embassy Review : We had to wait outside the premises for about 40 minutes because the waiting room was packed. We were let in and sat down for approx. 2 hours. Many people were sitting there for over 3-4 hours. Out of nowhere, our names got called, and we were led into the officer's personal office. There were people in the waiting room who entered before us, still waiting. The officer introduced herself and confirmed our names. The officer was very kind but seemed a bit rushed and apologized several times for the long wait. She took my fingerprints and took a picture of me. She then swore me in and asked whether our address was still the same. I said no, we recently moved, so she updated our case for us, and I had to sign that. We had taken our ten-month-old baby with us. I brought way less evidence than most people, some people came with whole suitcases full of evidence, and I brought our joint tax returns, lease, and joint car insurance together with our birth certificates. She asked for our passports and asked me whether I was working. I told her yes and my job title. She then proceeded to do the same for my wife. She asked to see our little one's birth certificate and asked if she could keep the copy. And that was it. She said I already read your file, and you're approved for your 2-year green card and again my apologies for the wait. There were no questions about our relationship, how we met, what my wife's uncle's favorite IPA was, or anything. 10 out of 10 experience, except for the wait, but hey, it was extremely busy. All in all, we were in and out of the officer's office within 5 minutes. She told us that the green card would be with us within two weeks.

Fun fact, I stressed a lot about my certified birth certificate, which I had to expedite-order from the Netherlands and express mail with UPS, but it wasn't even looked at or necessary.
Harassment Level : Very Good

Hi there, congrats on getting your EAD approved! I have a similar timeline to you guys, NOA date 11/19. I am just wondering did you expedite your EAD by chance? Praying that mine is approved soon!

Also do you know if it was just the EAD or did your AP get approved also?
blank avatar Immeister on 2022-04-06 said:
It's only the EAD. We tried expediting and got an e-mail from USCIS, but before we could send in our proof, we already got approved.
blank avatar Kmulvany97 on 2022-04-06 said:
That's great. What was your reason for trying to request an expedite? Maybe they saw the expedite request and thought they would just approve seeing as they were already looking at your case.

sorry for bombarding you with questions. Would you mind sharing the timeline between expedite requested, email received for evidence and approval date?
blank avatar Immeister on 2022-04-16 said:
No worries, expedite was requested 03/16, e-mail on 03/18 and received on 04/12. Our reason was financial hardship.
Gary Shelp on 2022-06-03 said:
We had our appoint in Tampa the same day but after an hour wait outside a supervisor came out and said because of Covid limitations, slow computers and small staff that everyone outside waiting for their appointment would be cancelled and a letter would arrive within 2 weeks with a new appointment date. Some people had taken off work, paid lawyers to attend or drove from some distance away for appointment. What a government cluster!

@Gary Shelp, that's horrible! I hope you get your appointment soon!

Hello, just a question. You received your ead and AP in separate documents? Did you expedite your AP? Thanks

You got your verbal ok on June 2nd. How long before you received your paperwork/ green card? We got approved today and curious as to when we expect to receive our paperwork.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
