Hello. May I ask you why it took 3 months for your interview after NVC qualified you? Our embassy is in Barbados also and we are close to the end of the NVC stage so I was just wondering how long it normally takes from NVC stage to getting the interview date from the Embassy?

From NVC notification to Packet 3/4 email from the embassy was maybe a month. You have to pay the visa fee before you can schedule the interview, and we tried to pay with debit card. It never would process, and after lots of waiting and going back and forth with the embassy, it was finally revealed that you have to use a CREDIT card if paying online, and they will NOT refund any double payments so we were being careful of that. Fiance also had to go to Canada to take an exam during the middle of that, so that increased the time by a month as well.

Oh! Got it. Okay so the actual typical wait time is around a month to get the interview date. That’s good information about the credit card. How much is the fee? And was the interview pretty simple? I heard you have to take your passport to DHL to send to the embassy for them to give you your visa.

Sorry I have another question. You have to pay the fee before scheduling an interview? This is the first I’ve heard of that. I thought NVC works with the embassy to schedule the interview and you just get notified of the interview date.

Yes, that's how it was for us. After the NVC forwards your case to the embassy, they no longer handle the case. The embassy will mail/email you "packet 3", and once you respond to them they send "packet 4". You have to schedule the interview among days they have available. Make sure you don't wait too long because your case will expire after so long after the initial approval, unless the embassy extends it (which they did in our case).

Interesting! Thank you for the information. And now we know we need to pay by credit card. Was the interview pretty simple?

Hi. My husband is about to do his medical, and OMG - it’s $700 USD!?

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
