Consulate Review: Ethiopia
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 29, 2022
Embassy Review : Arrived at 7am after being instructed to arrive at 7:30am for 8am interview. Were able to stand in line as the first ones.

My husband was let in at 7:18, I (naturally) had to wait outside, so I went for a walk. When I returned later, the people on duty were very kind and said it wasn't a problem for me to sit in the area and wait for him to come out.

Husband said the interviewer was very friendly and easy to talk to; she made him comfortable. He was asked if he wanted an interpreter and declined.
Questions he was asked:
-How and when did you meet your wife?
-When did you propose?
-Where was your honeymoon?
-Has she/you been married before?
-Have you met her parents?
-Are her parents divorced? (I thought this was an interesting one. They're not.)
She asked if he brought any photos, which he provided. She made general small talk, commenting on the wedding, etc.
She asked questions about where certain photos were taken (the answers I had written on the back) or who was in them. She asked him questions like, "have you ever been to Hawassa?" One of the photos was taken there, so I suppose this was another way of checking his answers.

The whole interview time took probably 15 minutes.
Rating : Very Good

Hello , have you heard anything about your case ?
blank avatar MeliA on 2021-12-05 said:
Hi, unfortunately, not a word since we were DQ'd. Nothing is moving at the embassy.

Hey, I heard that they are working in this month on cases DQ on early July 2020 , means in our case 16 months backlog ahead of us . They are taking forever.

That's pretty much the way we had it figured before, but with the current situation, I imagine it will be pushed back even further.

I have no idea what kinds of cases they are working on. However, I tend to think most are related to children (as that's priority 1) because nearly everyone at the embassy had children with them. We got an interview because we expedited for medical reasons.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
