Local US CIS Office Review: Portland OR Review Topic: cis_topic Event Description Review Date : April 19, 2022 Embassy Review : Had our Adjustment of Status Interview today and it was largely a very good experience. When you walk in, you're greeted by security. You have to show that you have your interview notice, and then they put you through the airport-like security screening. You have to take off your shoes and belt, so had we thought about it, we may have chosen different shoes, but nothing too bad. The only negative experience was that the COVID parameters closed the information desk, so you go straight to the waiting room without checking in. This caused us some confusion because we didn't know if our IO was going to know that we were there, but in the end at our scheduled time, the officer called us by name and there were no problems getting seen. At this time, masks were not required to be worn in the interview. Our immigration officer was really warm, walked us through what kind of questions were going to be asked. He asked the general inadmissability questions that are on the I-485, then moved to the I-130. That's where he wanted to know our story of how we met, our courting situation and that was pretty much it. Didn't dive too deep into questioning the nature of our relationship. We were prepared with all of the prep questions - like, names of family members, what did we have for breakfast, what kind of work do we do, our work schedules, etc... but none of that was asked. I guess we were pretty apparent in our general bona fide relationship. He then asked for additional documents and I handed him the stack of evidence. He thumbed quickly through them and pulled out stuff like pictures and beneficiary statements, affidavits, and utility bills. All of that took approximately 30 seconds. Then he said he needed to finish up some stuff and he will try to get it approved later in the day. We left and about 15 minutes later, our case was updated to "Card is being produced." Couldn't ask for a better interview! I'm knocking down the rating one notch only because it is quite confusing for such an anxiety-provoking moment to not have any instruction on where to go or to be prepared for them to call you at your time. It's not good to worry that maybe you're in the wrong place or that they won't know that you're there. But all in all, it was an easy process and I hope everyone gets the same great interview experience we had. Harassment Level : Good
