My wife and I were living in the US where she had a green card. We went to Montreal in 2016 for my job at an international organization tied to the UN. She voluntarily surrendered her green card due to us living in Canada full time. We had no idea that to return we would have to go through this nightmare all over again! When I left in 2019 to return to the US my wife was told she must return immediately to Canada and file from there. We were told by our attorney that filing for a change of status in the US could be seen as visa fraud. This time I am demanding she become a US citizen to avoid this nightmare again. Once is stressful but the second time made it unbearable.

I contacted US Citizen Services on Sept 23 and asked to have her appointment expedited due to needing knee replacements and needing her to help me. I explained when I was living in Montreal I saw 4 different surgeons who documented my deteriorating knees but told me I did not meet the social system requirements to have them done.
-Sept 25 they asked me for supporting documents. Which I sent all the files from the doctors in Montreal plus my surgeon here in the US.
-Sept 28th the Consulate approved my request for an expedited interview.
-Oct 7 Was notified our case was at the Consulate and that an interview would be scheduled when possible.
-Oct 13 notified of an Oct 28th interview.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
** Not all cases are transfered
