Consulate Review: Finland
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 18, 2020
Embassy Review : I arrived at the embassy about 10 minutes before the interview. I was immediately let in and went through a security screening. You have to turn off your phone and leave it at the door with the rest of your stuff. You can only bring the things you need for the interview.

I went to a large waiting room and there was only one other person there at the same time. I was called to the first window where they asked for all the documents. No copies of any documents was asked, only the originals.

I went back to the waiting room and was asked back to the second window about 5 minutes later. The consular officer took my fingerprints and only asked me a couple of questions: where did we meet, what does my husband do, what do I do and when would I be traveling. She then said that everything should be in order and that things are going to move pretty quickly from now on.

I waited 8 days for my passport (one of them a federal holiday and a weekend). My status stayed at “ready” for 7 days, then turned to “administrative processing” for a couple of hours, then to issued on the 8th day. They said that I could get my passport back next week because the embassy would be closed for the rest of the week but I asked if I could come get it during the same day. They said okay if I came before 4pm. I got it back that same afternoon.

Everything else but the wait was nice. Officers were professional and polite. It just took them a long time to stamp the visa but I suspect they are working on reduced staff because of COVID.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
