Comments : I entered Los Angeles on K1 visa from Toronto.

Customs took too long as there was a huge lineup before me. I had an early flight and had made sure to reach airport well in advance but since the security opened at 7am and my flight was at 8am, I had to rush everything.

Air Canada and United airline attendants would come every few minutes asking if anyone was flying with them, then take down their info. I guess they were making sure to hold the plane so no one would miss their flight.

The flight had delayed for more than an hour, guess because of people like me being held in customs. I was very nervous that I would not make it but kinda worked in the end.

Overall customs process was smooth, they asked questions about spouse and myself and about the marriage dates etc.

Overall good experience but just too much waiting time and anxiety at customs due to huge line-ups.

Event Description

Embassy Review : A really easy experience. I was extremely nervous and anxious inspite of being well prepared with my application but believe me when I say there's no need to be!!

The security allows you to enter inside only on your appointment time and not before that. My appointment was at 10:15 and that's when they let me in.

You go through an airport security-like checkpoint. Put your documents in a bin that is x-rayed. Then you step through the metal detector and since I was not having anything on me other than my documents folder, I just had to go to the 1st floor, window 5.

I checked in at window 5, handed my passport to this lady who gave me a ticket and told me to have a seat. When my number was called I went to a different window and they asked me for the following documents:

- Proof of visa payment
- Color Photocopy of bio page of my passport
- Original and copy of beneficiary's birth certificate
- I-134 and supporting documents. I had separate bunch for 2018 to 2020 tax documents (IRS tax return transcript, 1040, W2). I also handed another set of HR document from my fiancé's workplace, bank document and paystubs for last 3 months. I believe they did not really need it but since I had it all separately arranged I gave them everything
- Police Certificate(s) (I had to provide both Canada and India police certificates - original copy)
- 2 Passport photos
- PR card photocopy

I was asked to confirm both beneficiary and petitioner address.

They did NOT ask me for an intent to marry letter or any proof of relationship.

After that I was given a domestic violence leaflet to read and instructed to sit down again. I was called to another window (using the same number I was given the first time) for the interview. I was asked:

- Take oath that all the information I have provided is correct. The person digitally signed it on my verbal confirmation.
- What is the petitioner's name
- When/how we met
- What my fiance does for work & what I do for work
- Where I've traveled in the last 5 years
- How many/how long were my visits to the US, when was my longest stay
- Have I had any issues with immigration/the law before or have I overstayed in the US in the past
- If any of us have kids or married before
- If I'd read and understood the domestic violence pamphlet given to me

He said he is going to approve my visa and handed me the pink slip of paper and said congratulations.

Told me they will keep my passport to print the visa on it gave me a page with information on tracking the status.

It took me a little less than an hour. Super straightforward and easy!

The security, staff and the interviewer were all super friendly 😊

Embassy Review : #AOS #Interview
We had our AOS interview at Santa Ana, CA.
Overall very smooth and super easy, the lady said she will approve us and it will take some time to update the status online.
We parked in the building’s paid parking with $1 for every 15 mins.
We entered the building 25 mins early and went through the security check. We kept our phones in the car itself but I guess phones were allowed inside, I saw everyone on their phones. We had to check-in and they took the interview notice and asked us to wait. There were already too many people waiting and seemed the interview office was running late. We were called 25 mins late than our scheduled time. Took 15-20 mins for the overall interview with the officer. This lady greeted us and took us to the room for the interview. Started by taking an oath and then she asked basic questions to me, the applicant first. The first thing she asked was about the I-693 and I informed her I do not have that instead I have DS-3025 based on my medicals done in Toronto and they are still valid. She disagreed and said I-693 is required and asked me to keep that item on hold. At least she checked with someone by messaging and confirmed I was right. She agreed that she does not do a K1 visa and does not know much about the requirement as she doesn't usually interview for K1. Wish I had the instructions of I-693 to show her the part that said K1 does not require any medicals. Other than that she asked about our story and how we met, which I provided with all the required details. She was already satisfied with everything we had and was busy typing information in the system and not listening that well. But anyways, I made sure I provided here all details. She asked some yes/no questions similar to 485 General Eligibility and Inadmissibility Grounds. Lastly, she just checked with me about my current address and where did I work in the past. They only asked my USC husband his name and where he worked. I had to sign a document for some questions which are part of 485. Lastly, she asked if I had any questions for her and if I would like to submit something else. I had every document possible so I asked if I can submit a newly filled 864, but she said she already has that. I still ended up giving her a joint bank account, and insurance copies. I offered to give more proof too but she was reluctant as she was then required to scan everything and maybe she did not want to go through the trouble. I double-checked if the medical thing is sorted and she reassured me and added she is going to approve us but that online might take some time to update.

Overall good experience but the center was so busy or understaffed, that there were delays in getting to the interview room.

Good luck to everyone who is waiting for their interview. It is super easy, even though the fact that I was quite stressed and nervous myself. After all this wait finally, the process is coming to the end, and no more paperwork until ROC.

I have to wait for my GC to get the married name updated on the SSN.

Hi, join the Facebook group, "Montreal K1 Visa Applicants". It will be very useful. NVC hasn't sent cases to the consulate since the middle of April :(. Also, check the Google sheet for the Montreal cases timelines. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yXsBaODEcERCnBkkVhTklmw1LrFVkY9dE6z2Q5D2kCc/edit?usp=sharing

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
