Comments : Update- we were approved for a emergency appointment with and are now in the USA.
Original comments: Unfortunately our May 17 Interview was canceled due to COVID Embassy closure. We are awaiting the embassy to reopen and our appointment to be rescheduled.

The length of our case is not typical due to a few reasons:
1. We did all the paperwork without a lawyer, this took a lot of extra time. I do not advise this.
2. We transferred our case from the UAE to Egypt
3. Our case was expedited from the NVC directly to the Embassy
4. COVID has delayed our interview date due to Embassy closure

Consulate Review: Egypt
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 27, 2020
Embassy Review : The officer was very nice and polite. My husband found the interview straight forward and not difficult. They didn’t look at any of the papers we brought as evidence, but we documented our case pretty well when we submitted and he was a strong candidate. They asked him how he met me, about his work experience and certifications/education, where he has traveled in the world. We had no problems except we redid the medical after the interview Because we had to wait for the soon to be expiring medical in the system to be cleared out of the database to make room for the new one. It took about 1.5-2 weeks after the interview to get the visa because of this.
Rating : Very Good

Did you already do the medical? I saw another couple was able to get an emergency interview because the medical was going to expire.

Yes, we did so the medical and 1 day after we finished they called and canceled our appointment! What luck! We finished the medical April 22, 2020 so it’s only been 1.5 month. But next time I email them I will emphasis more that We did the medical already. Every embassy is different, so US Embassy In Egypt might not accept this as emergency request. They have given the impression that the Visa office completely closed and not operational. But I’m sure someone is there for major emergencies. Twice I have requested emergency appointments, in May and in June but there response has been “Please contact in June when we are operational” And “Please contact us in July, we still have not resumed operations.” My emergency situations are not life/death and I have recently heard embassies are only processing those kind of emergencies at the moment. As of this date, all airports are closed both internationally and domestically and Egypt hasn’t reached its peak so these factors may be the reason the Embassy has not reopened. Hopefully soon Egypt and other countries that are still suffering will recover soon!
