Consulate Review: Manila, Philippines
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 6, 2020
Embassy Review : My husband's appointment was 6:30am.
Coming from Pangasinan he arrived at Manila at 4am and headed to the Manila USEM at 5:30am. People started to come as well.

Showed the interview letter, DS 260, Passport.

Pre-screening: Ds260,birth certificate, marriage certificate, Cenomar/advisory on Marriages (both His and mine),NBI clearance,he said they didn't even asked for his 2x2 pictures, the lady at the window started to ask questions too on how we both met etc..[I may have forgotten some other documents that they asked for, this is just how my husband told his story from what happened.]
They also even took my 2019 tax transcript.[I dont know if this is at the prescreening stage or consul stage]

Next biometrics: fingerprints [according to my husband the Filipina ladies are so strict and serious. But the guys like the consuls are so understanding and nice.

Next waiting name to be called by the consul, they only had 4 windows open at a time thats why it took a while..

When it was my husband's turn, he greeted the consul.
Consul asked: Who is your petitioner? Whats her name.
The consul even asked my husband if he wanted an interpreter. [My husband understands english and knows how to speak but at that time, he was so tired, sleepy and hungry from the long trip, i guessed the consul noticed from his face, hehe so yeah my husband said yes! So there was a filipina translator with the consul].. take note: do what makes it easier for you..
Other questions asked:
Where does your wife work?
What does she do?
How do you meet?
When did you asked her to get married?
How many times has she visited you?
How long did she stay?
[These are some of the questions asked]

Next was the long part according to him:
They asked why his name on his birth certificate different from what he uses now..
He explained that he was first using his father's last name when he was born and when his parents separated, his mom wanted him to carry the mothers last name so thats why there are REMARKS on his birth certificate.
Consul looked for his NBI clearance and mostly focused everything from there.. the rest of our documents like proof of relationship, AOS etc they didnt even asked for..
Consul was amazed how quick and straightforward my husbands answers were and really convinced that our relationship is true.
It was just his name that was a problem.
Consul gave him pamphlets on domestic violence etc.
Also gave him a letter from the embassy that he needs to submit an police clearance and NBI clearance with an A.K.A [also known as] [his name on his birthcertificate]. Via 2Go with his passport and the letter given to him.

Over all, everything is approved, but his visa is just on hold until we submit the documents needed and upload it too on the CEAC portal.

Rating : Good

Thanks! Yes our case was expedited and was approved July 24,2020.. My husband did his medical appointment on Sept.16,2020 and I emailed the Manila U.S embassy for interview and received it on Sept 28,2020.

That's great! You emailed IVManilaReplies@state.gov after the medical and then they scheduled your interview, correct? Congrats again...
blank avatar Jaze on 2020-10-01 said:
Yes! Just make sure when you check the status of your case that is says "Ready" on the CEAC portal. When it does you can schedule your medical appointment At St.lukes Extension Clinic without interview letter..

was your husband able to mail in his NBI w/ AKA clearance? We are in a similar situation and mailed in our documents from the issued 221g. We are now anxiously awaiting some response/visa issuance.
blank avatar Jaze on 2020-10-17 said:
Hi! Yes my husband mailed it through 2GO with his passport and the Letter [221g]. He sent it Oct 08, and they received it at the Manila USEM Oct 14.. I emailed them and informed them that we sent and uploaded the docs Etc..and that when I tracked it it was already received by the USEM. I also asked how long it will take for the process and I actually got a reply 4 hours later stating that they did receive it but it may take a while before a consulate will review it.. Then when I checked today at the CEAC portal October 16, from refused it now says ISSUED. Which my husband will receive the visa packet 7-10 business days.. uhmm when did you send yours??

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
