Local US CIS Office Review: Denver CO
Review Topic: cis_topic
Event Description
Review Date : October 7, 2020
Embassy Review : It was a very casual conversation. The interviewing officer sworn us in, sat us down. Not going to say her name, well common decency I guess. Anyhow she was in her early 30s my guess, cant tell because of the mask, very pleasant personality and a happy gentle intelligent laugh.
I am gonna try to write down as many details as I can remember
Me - hubby/beneficiary , Wife - USC/petitioner, IO - interviewing officer

IO: "Would you like to submit any bonafide material"?

Me: blank expression looking at my wife

wife: “this is your interview so you can answer, don’t have to ask me everything" (laughingly)

IO: "I see who is the boss"

me: "well not always" (laughingly)

me: "yeah nothing has really changed from what we submitted, there is an auto insurance change since we sold our old car and bought 2 new"(handing her the new insurance card copies"

Me: “We submitted State Farm I think, now we have All State"

Wife: "Yeah they tried to screw me over rates, and I said I am taking my business somewhere else"

Me: "Yeah once our car slipped on ice and we ended up in ditch, there was little cosmetic damage but someone had to tow us out! (to wife) remember when we were driving to see our friend in Chicago"

Wife: "Yeah, and once I was taking the car out from the underground garage here in downtown Denver and i dinged the driver side rear door"

Me: "Both times they paid but we knew they are gonna kick our premium up"

IO:" Yeah they do that every few year, just to see if you will pay more"

Me:" Exactly! (to wife) didnt your coworker said if they have paid you twice for repairs, then they will jack up your rate"

Wife: "For real, Also i think because it was a BMW they must have lost a lot of money there"

ME: "but insurance is literally a bet you are taking against yourself"

IO: "Thats right, isn’t it, nice way to think about it"

io: (after checking a few docs)"do you have any kids, did you bring their birth certificate copies"

me: "we do, but didnt submit a copy since she wasn’t born then"

IO: "congrats! how old is she?"

wife:"10 months" (jumping in, we get super excited when someone asks question about our baby)wife: "if we would have brought her here, it would've been a mess in this office"

IO: "I have a 2 year old, and I understand what that would look like. So where is she now"
Wife:”His mother is visiting us so we left her with her”
Me:”I work from home during this pandemic, so we don’t send her to daycare”
IO:” Yeah I can understand”
Me:”Yeah, I was kinda conscious that my colleagues would hear in the background, so I have told them about her and everyone is cool about her. Infact a couple of times when the meetings have gotten heated up, the suggestion of bringing to come near the phone and make cute baby noises has been made”
Wife: “we are lucky that she doesn’t cry much and is a very happy and funny baby”

IO: "That’s so good to hear. Alright so I am gonna verify a few things about your application and make changes"
(verifies name, DOB, nationality, which visa i came to US on - H1b, if i had ever been on other visa, I said yes, I have come to US on B1 visa a few times for meetings in the past, there was a change in my wife's employer, so she made that update"

then moves over to wife
(similar questions, the old 864 had previous employer and I had a new 864 with new employer)
(me checking to see if I had a new 864)
IO: (to wife)”You make more than enough in both jobs its fine i dont need new docs”

Then wife was nudging me to give some photographs, and we started scrolling through 1st of our 2 albums.
IO: "you can provide whichever pics you like, i wont take the whole album"

Me: " I was hoping not, it took us a while to put all this pics in the album" (laughing)

Wife:" you can have as many pics, there are deals at CVS for 10cents a pic"

Me:"but it takes a lot of effort to put them in an album"

IO:"I know! I can never sit down to do this" (points at album)

Me:"thank god for digital pics and google photos right"
(everyone laughs)

Me: “That’s a nice pic”

Wife: “But that doesn’t have all 3 of us in the pic”

IO: (Laughingly) “Its okay, you all 3 don’t have to be in the pic, I believe your marriage is not fraud its real”

Me: (laughingly to wife) “ you should give this pic, I look good in this one”

IO:”So how did you guys meet”

Me: “We met online through this dating app”

Some details about how we talked online for a few months before meeting in person

Me: “you know what's funny, we met for our first 5 dates in different cities, Indianapolis for Indy 500, then her town , then Toronto , then Newyork City, Denver, and then I lost track”
Me:” I used to travel for work, so I would see her every other weekend till she moved to Denver”

A few more questions here and then some how the discussion moved to work, kids and pregnancy.

Wife and IO had a heart to heart about Postpartum depression and the physical pain which lasts for a while. She gave a few suggestions to deal with it. Since my wife works in mental health, she was able to explain some things in more detail.

I was yawning through my mask, and apologized and said we got coffee on the way but since they say not food or drinks are allowed inside we left it in the car
IO:”well don’t worry, I wont keep you any longer”

She walked us out, and said she will make a copy of baby’s certificate. We waited for a few minutes in the lobby and she gave us the original. She said she forgot me plastic sheet protector in her office, I said that’s okay as I got them like a pack a buck. It was kinda funny because it was like worth 10cents and was being all uneasy.
Anyhow at the end we said greetings and I asked if there is anything, she wants additional or we should submit or do. She said everything was good, and I should get my permanent resident card in the mail soon depending on some background check she was to do. I told her it was all good and thanked her for her time.

Overall, it was a great experience which lasted for maybe 40-45ish minutes. My wife & I were talking in general with the IO for atleast 30-45 minutes about general stuff as you would do with a friend. Though I haven’t received any update since this morning, but I am pretty sure it will be all good.

As far documentation is concerned, if everything is actually fine, it will okay and try not to stress.
Be honest and have a friendly conversation.

Harassment Level : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
