Consulate Review: Mumbai, India
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 30, 2019
Embassy Review : My interview appointment time slot was 7:15...I reached the embassy at 5:45...I waited outside the embassy along with the other applicants, until the security guard there asked for immigrant visa applicants to form a line...after a security check I was let in, a point to note here is that they let me take in the medical CD that was left inside my bag accidentally (we are not supposed to carry anything electronic). Inside the embassy, another line was formed and Indian staff at the embassy helped us arrange the papers in order...it was like appointment letter/receipt first, then DS160, they attached two pictures (2x2inches) that I had to the DS160, Police clearance certificate and copy, Birth Certificate and copy and Medical Report along with passport...right after that they gave me a slip with token number G205 on it...In US Consulate Mumbai, the interview room is like a big hall with several counters in it along with the waiting area, I was sitting in the waiting area until my token flashed on the screen with the counter number on it, it didn't even take 15 minutes of wait. I walked up to the counter and there was an Indian man, probably in his late 20s waiting for me, he asked me if I am fine with English, who is calling me to the US and when I am traveling to the US. Then he asked me for all the documents that were arranged earlier, he took all them in and gave me back my original birth certificate and PCC and kept everything else. Then he asked for the affidavit of support, I provided him with the packet that I prepared. I don't know why but he literally returned everything (the cover letter, employment letter, pay stubs, bank statements), He only kept the form and tax returns, this made me very upset and I told him that its just one return from 2018 (from Aug to Dec) and it doesn't prove anything and I have specifically made everything to prove that the income is sufficient. He said if the officer needs anything else, they will ask me and he gave everything back to me. All the hard work spent on the packet was wasted, the good thing that I think I did was that I explained our situation in the form I134 itself, so that consular knows it. I was told to go back and wait again until my token is called again for the real interview...I waited again there, for like 30 minutes and then my token flashed on the screen again with another counter number...I walked up there to see the consular, she was a white lady, probably in her mid-30s, she seemed friendly and she greeted me with Good morning.

Then I was told to take an oath and say everything truthfully...the questions that I was asked are below..

1 - Who is calling you to the US?
2 - How did you meet your fiance? We met in a language app.
3- What is the app about?
4 - Who contacted whom first?
5 - What was your topic about that she commented on?
6 - Why not get married in India?
7 - Has she traveled to meet you in India? I told her, yes my fiance traveled twice to meet me...she recently came in June...I gave her entire explanation about how we have met, when and where and everything, I had the boarding passes and tickets to back up my claims along with pictures.
8 - Does she have siblings?
9 - Have you met her family?
10 - Does she lives with her family?
11 - What does my family thinks about her?
12 - What about religious differences?
13 - Can I see the pictures that you mentioned?
14 - What does she do?
15 - Is her job permanent?

After that, the consular said your visa is approved and that I must marry within 90 days. She also explained my rights about police and crime and gave me a white receipt. All and all the interview was a breeze, less then 10 minutes, I offered all the details and pointed towards the evidence during the interview that I was carrying. They didn't try to trap me or anything, it was just like a casual conversation, but I tried my best to stay calm and confident.
Rating : Very Good

Hello, do you remember how many days after you received your packet 3 letter from US embassy after the case left NVC?

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
