Consulate Review: Singapore
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 16, 2007
Embassy Review : Got there at 8:30am, and was told to join the line outside the Embassy with the other non-immigrant visa applicants, even though I told the guard that I have an appointment at 9am. Joined the line nevertheless, got through security, and went to the Visa room. Took a queue no. for Immigrant Visa, and waited about 45 minutes before my no. was called. Went up to the Consular Officer behind the counter, and one by one, she asked for all my documents. Then, she asked me the following questions:
1) How did you 2 meet?
2) What does your fiance do?
3) Does he live with his parents?
4) Are his parents PR holders or citizens?
5) What were you doing in Australia? (I was there for a year studying)
6) How many times have you been to the US? Were you ever granted my visa? (Luckily I had the common sense to bring along my old passport with my tourist visa granted in 1996, now Singapore is under the VWP, so we don't need visas to enter the US anymore. She then asked for my old passport.)

With that, she gathered all my docs, and said, "ok, pls come back to this window at 2PM for your interview, don't have to take the queue no. again." And passed my my appointment letter with the time 9am crossed out and re-written 1400hrs.

At 2PM, after security checks and all, I went back to the same room, same counter and passed the same lady my appointment letter. I waited in the room for about an hour before another consular officer called my name. He was polite and said sorry to have kept me waiting. And then asked me to put my right hand up, and swear to the oath that whatever I've submitted in the application was correct. I did that and he asked me the following questions:
1) How did you 2 meet?
2) What does your fiance do?
3) When was the first time you both met in person?
4) How many trips have you both taken to see each other?
5) How many times have you been to the US, and what purpose?
6) What do you do here?
7) Have you met his family yet and vice versa?
8) What are your wedding plans?
9) Where are you 2 planning to live in? Which city?

Then he started looking through the stack of pictures we submitted and asking if we were in NY, LA in some of the pictures. All in all he seemed pretty pleased with all my answers, and kept nodding his head in agreement throughout our whole conversation. Lastly, he concluded: "Ok, everything looks good here. I'm gonna give you this receipt, you'll have to come back next Tues or anyday thereafter to collect your passport. Ok?"

That's it, guys! Could've never done it without all of you here in VJ!
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
