Comments : We received our March 31 appointment letter on February 6. I was concerned about the accelerating spread of the Corona virus and possible travel restrictions and maybe even immigration restrictions, so at the end of February I wrote to the consulate and ask them if they could reschedule our interview sooner. Incredibly, they acquiesced, and rescheduled our interview for March 10th, barely a week away. The interview went well, and they told us we could receive our visas on March 12th, two days later. But one day later, Donald Trump imposed his travel restrictions for Europe, effective on Friday night. We were planning to immigrate through Moscow. so we accelerated our timetable. We received our visas on Thursday, March 12th. On Friday morning, my family got on a plane. I was in America, so I flew from Washington to JFK, and from JFK to Moscow to meet them. We missed our flight back to America, so we caught the next flight. We arrived in America on Friday evening, and two hours later my family cleared customs. Although they left Kazakhstan Friday morning and travelled for more than 24 hours, they still arrived in America before midnight Friday because of the time zones. We beat Donald's deadline with a couple of hours to spare.

And two days after my family arrived, Kazakhstan closed its borders indefinitely. Nobody in, nobody out.

They originally scheduled our interview for March 31, 2020. I wrote to the Consulate and told them that I feared that the spreading Corona virus would result in the suspension of all immigration into the United States. I asked if they could schedule our interviewer sooner. Incredibly, they rescheduled our interview for March 10. Three weeks earlier.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
