Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 21, 2019
Embassy Review : Great experience all and all during my interview!

Stayed at the Campus MTL student residence (cheap, clean, basic and secure) they might just offer it as a hotel during the off school season, not sure! Other great options would be the Delta or the Hilton. These hotels are in very close walking distance to both the medical office and the consulate! Saved us a lot of time in driving and parking!

Got to the consulate early (6:45) and others started coming shortly after. Like it has been said many times before, keep your belongings to a minimum and you will breeze through security. There is a lot of construction in Montreal right now, so I advise scouting out the consulate a day before your interview!

What I brought:
Binder with all documents
Passport
Book

My husband and I met at a set location afterwards to find each other when I was done. So I didn’t have to check a cell phone.

When you enter the security guard will ask if you have an appointment. You present your appointment letter and passport to the lady at the desk. She gives you a laminated sheet with the order your documents need to be in (and your # in line) and placed a sticker on your passport. You then proceed through security (just like airport security) you then go down a flight of stairs and wait in the elevator lobby.

At this time I started gathering my documents in the order of the laminated sheet.
Order of documents (best of my memory)
- laminated sheet
- passport
- 2 passport style photos
- birth certificate
- marriage certificate
- divorce certificate ( if applicable)
- police certificate
- AOS
- most recent tax returns

We were taken up to the 19th floor and waited in a room to be called. Make sure you listen for your number as the speaker can be a little difficult to hear.

The lady at the counter was so kind! I was so nervous but she was very specific and pleasant to work with. She confirmed addresses and phone numbers and collected documents one by one from the laminated sheet. She then Fingerprinted me and I was able to go sit back down and wait for the interview. This part took all of 5-7 minutes. if you are organized, prepared and have your binder/folder in order you will be fine! Make copies of EVERYTHING just in case!

I waited for approx. 25 minutes to be called to a room for the interview. Again, this officer was very kind and had me answer some simple questions after I took an Oath.

Who is the petitioner?
How did you meet?
How often do you see eachother?
What’s your longest stay in the US?
Have you ever been convicted of a crime in the US/Canada?

She then gave me a “welcome to the United States” sheet and said I could pick up my visa in about 2 weeks!

I was in and out of the consulate in just under an hour and a half!

Other reviews really helped me prepare for this interview! My biggest suggestion is to PREPARE, be ORGANIZED and go through your binder so you know where each document is! Make copies just to be safe! Be confident in your preparations and your interview will go so smoothly!

Map out where the consulate is located! If you have time find a route to it that you become comfortable with!

Montreal is an amazing city so make sure you enjoy afterwards!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
