Consulate Review: Mumbai, India
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 6, 2019
Embassy Review : VJ community has been very helpful through this journey, so i thought I'd share my medical and interview experience.
The medical appointment date was on 15th of Feb, 10 days before my interview, i couldn't get a closer date as all the dates were full.
Reached Rele Clinic around 8.30, was given token number 12, the staff and everything there was very efficient, took close to 2-2.5 hours to be done. They ask you to fill a form out, draw your blood, get your vision tested, then send you for Xray and finally physical exam by the doctor, and she adminsters the vaccine too. Once you are done paying , they ask you wait for sometime and then tell you to come next afternoon and collect your reports.

Came to Mumbai again on the 24th of Feb, the biometrics appointment was at 1pm, they send you in, no phones no smart watches allowed, they ask for the required docs and 2 photographs too, go to the next counter and they check everything, print and put a sticker on your passport, then you're given a token, wait in line and go the counter you're called, they take your pic and scan your fingers and you're out, takes around 15 mins to be done.

The next day.25th was the interview at 7.30am, reached the consulate at 7, they called all the immigrant applicants to line up outside, there are staff outside who screen out the non immigrant applicants, and then let the others in, you enter the building, there is a security check/scan your stuff, no backpacks and handbags and all that allowed, just a cover for your documents and album is fine. No electronics allowed here too, anyways after this you're sent to enter another building, since i was at the early batch, there were hardly much people there, you enter the second building, wait in line, the staff come up and arrange your docs in order for you and youre asked to wait. I was like the first in line there but the preference was given to people who wanted their own regional language officers, anyways after 15-20mins was called to the counter, it was a Indian lady officer, who asked for my documents and asked me who was calling me to the usa? and if my husband has come with me for the interview. i guess she couldn't find my bio-metric info on their system, so she asked for my passport photo and had to scan my fingers again there, after that she asked me about my PCC from Republic of Georgia (i lived there for 6 years till 2017) , she asked me if it was possible for me to get a new one from Georgia since it was dated May 2017,. I told her its not possible since ive never visited the country again after i got the PCC from there. She told ok, gave me paper on Domestic abuse helpline and things and told me to wait, this thing with her took around 20 mins, others were done sooner (probably cause of my biometric confusion & Georgian PCC)

Had to wait for and close to an hour and 15 mins to be called for the interview, they do the English preferred applicants later i guess, anyways went up to the counter, it was an American lady officer, she asked me to raise my hand and swear to tell the truth, after that she asked like train of questions :
Whats your husband doing?
CO: When did you'll get married?
Co: Was it a Love or Arrange marriage? (Arranged)
CO: So how did the proposal come about? (Relative bla bla)
CO: When did that happen, which date did your families decide to go with this?
CO: So when did you'll start talking?
CO: When did they come meet?
(Told her the whole time-line with the dates of when it started to how it progressed, the engagement and the wedding day)
CO: How many people showed up to the wedding ? (2000)
CO: Oh wow 2000?
(Yup we had a huge wedding)
CO: do you have your wedding album with you?
(I was like yup but only like a smaller version of it,here you go)
CO: oh that's great, did you already know the big ones wouldn't slide through the glass?
(yup i figured it wouldn't )
She did look through all the pictures
CO: So what kind of wedding was this? (christian protestant)
Returned it back, told it was beautiful
CO: So what did you'll do for your first anniversary? Whats gifts did you'll send each other ?
Did he come meet you?
(Told her that he did come visit me few months before the anniversary, so he couldn't come again for the anniversary, she wanted to know the dates of his visit)
CO: So where do your in-laws work ?
CO: Are you planning to live in the same household as them?
CO: So you've been in Georgia for six years? Are you planning on taking the license exam when you reach USA
(told her yes, iv'e been preparing for it, she said good, all the best for it)
Then she took out my Georgian PCC, she was like do you know to read their script? (Told her yes, but im pretty slow at it, we both just laughed at it
CO: So did you ever visit Georgia again after you got this PCC?
(told her no)
CO: Ok, so here are your originals.....
she proceeded to explain about USCIS fee, and that im part of the electronic system, and i wont be getting a packet etc
and FINALLY...... She said.. YOUR VISA is APPROVED, you will get back your passport it few days, Congratulations and Have a good day.

Both the Officers i was sent to (Indian & American) were friendly and nice.
Got in around 7.15 was out by 9.30am

Took me exactly a week to get my passport back

Rating : Good
