Embassy Review : Wooohooooo!
Interview date was set for my birthday, November 13th. We showed up at the Vancouver Consulate at 12:45 for my 1:00 appointment. There was no line-up and only one other person was there for an interview and his was a last minute appointment otherwise I would have been the only person there. The guards were very nice but did their job which was to check coats, purses etc. and make sure we had no electronic devices. It was pretty much like going through security checks at the airport except we did not have to remove our shoes. We went through 2 security checks.

We waited until approx. 1:15 and then I was called to the window B first. A man took my documents as requested on the checklist. I signed the DS-156 in front of him. I did not need the copy of the picture page of my passport. He did of course, take my passport and the copies of my birth and marriage certificates, after checking the originals. He then told me to have a seat and I would be called at 2:00 for fingerprinting. There were no magazines and neither one of us brought a book so we just chatted. At approx. 1:45 I was called out to the hallway to window 1. A lady there took my fingerprints (electronically) and then told me to sit down again. At approx. 2:10 I was called back to window B and a different lady conducted the interview which was ridiculously easy. It was more of a conversation than questions and it seemed like it was just information she did not know, like she did not have any of my documents. I interview for a living so I know easy and tough and this was not even like an interview. She asked where we met and I told her and she asked how long we have known each other. She explained they just need to establish a valid relationship exists although she did not ask for pictures, emails or anything, she just took my word for it. She asked if I would be going to school in the U.S. and I told her that it could be a possibility depending on what my husband and I decide but not necessarily. She asked where I will be living and I said my husband’s house in Tacoma. She asked if he owns his own home and I said yes. She asked me how to spell Tacoma and asked what he does for a living and I told her. She then said to someone I did not see that she was ready to approve me and explained to me that she is training, and then a man walked up and said “yay” and gave the thumbs up….so I said “yay” and gave the thumbs up. They asked if I wanted to pick up my visa or have it mailed and I said I would pick it up so they told me to come back the next day at 2:00. I brought the letter back again on the 14th at 2:08 and there was a small line outside but I opened the door and the security guard checked me again and I was on my way upstairs again. I had to wait approx. 20 minutes and then the same man brought me my passport with the Visa picture sticker in it for travel to and from the U.S. and a sealed envelope which I give to the border guards on my move to the U.S. My husband and I walked back to my office which is a block away and I gave my 2 weeks notice. I am going on a vacation at the end of November and then moving to the U.S. mid-December.

This was such a positive and easy experience and everyone at the Vancouver Consulate is very nice.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
