Member Reviews:

Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : December 12, 2020
Embassy Review : The consulate shares an entrance with Royal Bank. My husbands appt was at 10:15 and we got there at 10:11.
Security check and then my husband handed his passport and waited 40 min to go up to the window to give his original documents.
They asked for his original documents: birth certificate, marriage certificate, police clearances, work permit (my husband is a temporary worker). They didn’t ask for my financial documents.

After another 10-15 min, he was called up to the window for his interview.
He was asked: how did we meet, describe your relationship before the wedding, when was the wedding, how many people attended the wedding, have you been to the US, what I did for a living, where he will be staying once he moves back and status in Canada. My husband lived in the US before so he was asked what he studied and specialized in.
At the end he was told that the visa was approved and the passport should arrive in 10 business days. The visa was issued the next day and we received the passport in 3 business days.
Rating : Very Good

Hi S, I saw that your NVC already received your paperwork! Does uscis tell you what to submit when they send you the I-130 approval letter? Please let me know! Thank you!
blank avatar SASAS on 2019-08-21 said:
No. USCIS doesn’t give any instructions on what to submit to NVC.

Ok, but do they at least tell you that it’s now time to submit the paperwork?

USCIS is not involved once they send your approved case to the NVC. The NVC will contact you or you can call them a week after uscis sends your case for a new case number/to see if they’ve received it. You can submit paperwork after you have a nvc case number. Instructions on what to submit are on the nvc website and nvc may send instructions too. I’m not at that stage yet.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
