Consulate Review: Naples, Italy
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 9, 2019
Embassy Review : I would like to share my whole experience of my visa journey step by step and maybe this could help someone else with the k1 visa here in Italy.
So a little background. I live in Milan and there is actually a consulate in Milan but it doesn’t process the k1 visa so I had to travel in Naples for the interview.

When we saw the NOA2 got approved after 5 months we were over the moon, we were expecting 6 to 9 months, but we got lucky. I started to gather all the documents that they need when the NVC sent my papers in Naples, even though I didn’t receive my packet 3 yet.

1)First of all I went to the Tribunale and I get my:
-Certificato Generale dei Casellario Giudiziale (16 euro plus 7 to have it on hand the same day)
-certificato dei carichi pendenti (16 euro plus 7 to have it on hand the same day)
2)The following day I went to take a picture in a place near Piazzale Argentina, at Lima stop. I saw on Internet that they provide American passport photos. I spent 25 euro for 8 photos, not the cheapest but I didn’t know where to go. I’m pretty sure there are other places where you can take picture 5x5.
3) I went to my local ASST (I think in other places it’s calls ASL) and I got all my vaccine records. It’s free
Take a photocopy for each paper, it doesn’t need to be “autenticato” I did this mistake and I “authenticated” both of my police clearance at my local commune and I had to pay 16 each paper.

In the meantime, my fiancé was gathering his papers:
1) I134 form
2) W2 tax returns
3) Pay stub
4) Letter from employer
5) Birth certificate
6) Passport

So, I took a photocopy for each document, you don’t need the I134 sign with ink, what I mean it’s ok if your fiancé doesn’t send the I134 via DHL, because they took the photocopy. I even ask before the interview if I need to bring my fiancé birth certificate original or authenticated or just a photocopy. They reply to me that a photocopy would be enough.

We weren’t sure if my fiancé needed a cosponsor so we filled up another i134 with his dad information, paystub, w2, and passport. But at the end they didn’t ask for a cosponsor .

I book my appointment online, I paid 239 euro, and I print the receipt. I booked everything on the 17 of March 2019 and there was already some dated available on the 25 but it was too close for me.

NAPLES

So I stayed in the Airbnb really close to the American Consulate (10 min by walk), I highly recommend this place. It’s close to the bus (NUMBER C12) that brings you to the Istituto Diagnostico Varelli and there is a bus that can bring you directly to the Stazione Centrale of Napoli (NUMBER 151).
LA CASETTA DI GIULIA, It was managed by Maria, the studio was in via Ferdianando Palasciano. I spent 75 euro for 2 nights and 3 days.

DAY 1- ISTITUTO DIAGNOSTICO

I woke up really early maybe 5 am, I had my breakfast and I even pee. I walked towards the bus C12 at 6 am. I took the bus that cost 1,10 euro urbano one way. I arrive at the bus that suggested me google and I walked for 7 min. The place wasn’t great to walk by yourself at 6:20 am, it was too dark and I was totally alone. For my own safety I was holding my pepper spray the all time ehehhe.

I arrived there at around 6:30/6:40 and there was already one person in front of me ( keep in mind that the place open at 7 and in the packet 3 they said to arrive there at 8 am ). In the place they usually do blood exams and other exams too to other peoples ( not only for the consulate) so in front of me I had maybe 15/20 people. When I went inside, I walk towards the machine and I pressed the letter C for consulate. I was the first one.
I was expecting them to call at 8 am, so I was drinking the whole time ( because they say not to urinate 2 hours before the appointment ), well I was WRONG they start calling at 7.

So I will explain all the steps:
1. I went to the counter they will ask your passport, and they will give you your number back (KEEP IT)
2. There was a hall on the left, they made me sit on the yellow chairs. They called me and I followed the nurse inside of the room. She took my blood and gave me a container for my urine. I went to toilet and luckily, I had enough. I gave it back.
3. I sit again and a lady came calling 6 of us. We followed her and we went downstairs. They called me again. I sit in front of a guy, who was typing things to his computer. He asked me my vaccines and 4 pictures. He wrote all my vaccines at the pc. Asked me to write down, where I live, where I’m going to live, and my email. He asked me if I did the Varicella ( I said yes).
When he was done typing, he told me to if I wanted to pay in cash or card. I paid cash 220 euro. He told me to go upstairs again at the counter to tell them about the xray.
4. I went upstairs and the lady was serving other people, she said she was busy and I had to wait. At some point she called downstairs and said that she was too busy and we had to go directly.
5. The same lady who brought us downstairs came and guide us into another room close to the nurse room, (step 2). They called me and they asked me to remove my bra and keep my tank top. They took me a chest xray. And that was done. I asked information where to go next. She said to go downstairs again, wait next to the elevator and the physician will call my number.
6. I went downstairs and the doctor asked me question like: are you pregnant? Did you undergo any surgery? Do have any disease? Do you take any medication for depression? Did you have any seizure? Did you ever take any HIV exam? Do you take any medication at all? And other question that I forgot.
He took my blood pressure. The assistant guided me to another room, took my weight and height, asked me if I can read some letters, made me lay down into a bed where the physician listened to my heart and then my lungs.
After that I was all done.

DAY 2- AMERICAN CONSULATE

7:35 I walked to the consulate and I arrived 10 min later. I said my name to the guard, told my appointment ( it was 8 am) and I waited in line.
I passed to an area where they check my belongings like at the airport, they check my passport, and they took my phone that was off, my external battery, my earphone and my charger.
I went inside at the 2 floor, I sit and wait for my turn ( I was number 13).
When they called me they asked and check these documents:
1. Receipt of the payment (the 239 euro that I paid to book my interview)
2. 2 photos of me
3. Both police clearance. I brought my UK police clearance too because I lived there for 1 year.
4. My fiancé I134 and W2
5. I gave them the photocopy of his new passport too just in case they needed ( because he applied with a different one )
6. My birth certificate and he asked me about my double citizenship ( I don’t have a passport from the other country and I never lived there)
7. He asked me how I met my fiancé and where

I was talking in Italian in this first part, but you can speak English too if you want. He let me sit again and wait for the other window to call me.

At the second window a lady were asking me these questions:
1. Where and when did you met your fiancé?
2. How many times did you meet?
3. Usually how many times did you meet within a year?
4. Do you have sibling?
5. Are your parents happy about it? (I’m an only child, she looks empathetic)
6. Are you studying?
7. How about your medical degree? Will you continue to do it in USA?
8. Why he is not coming here and working here?
9. What’s the program for your wedding?

Overall, it’s was actually a pleasant conversation, I didn’t feel it was an interview at all, the woman was really kind and smile at me all the time.
After those question she said, I’m going to hold your passport, it will take 7 days to process everything and we will send it to you.
At 10 am I was all done.

. Overall I got my medical on 1 April, interview on 2 April, I picked up my passport on the 5 April in Milan.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
