HI guys, I am following you, happy couple. :-) We did applied at the same time , but we missed one check box , so our case got a bit delayed. Just quick question.if you don't mind. After you got your NVC# ( file case#), did you just waited for package 3 to arrive? or you did those steps ( which is filling out DS-160 form) and only after that they send you package 3. It passed 3 weeks almost we we got nothing. :-) thanks
NicoleS on 2019-03-07 said:
Hi Des N Jin. Is your case in Montreal? You should update your timeline. Your timeline also says your case was received, assigned a case #, and left the NVC on the same day? That seems highly unlikely. Anyways, after you get your case #, the NVC will prepare to send your case to Montreal in the shipment that happens every two weeks. What does your CEAC status say? Does it say "Ready"? If yes, has the "case last updated" changed since it first changed to "Ready"? I filled out the DS-160 after the 'second Ready' and submitted my P3 packet via email 2 days after the 'second Ready'. What date did it change to 'Ready' the first time?
blank avatar Des N Jin on 2019-03-08 said:
Hi Nicole, Thank you for the reply. Yes, our case also in Montreal also. All got is mail that the file# assigned and that our paperwork shipped to Montreal. I wasn't sure what it meant NVC sent. Probably you are right I need to remove that. What is CEAC? I know my fiance in the states got email on FEB 19. ( same that i got in mail). So the question is filling out the DS-160 form triggers the PAcket3 arrival or it has nothing to do with it. because today is March 8 and we still got nothing.
NicoleS on 2019-03-08 said:
Go here: https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx type in your case # that the NVC gave you (your MTL#) Since your case shipped on Feb. 19 your status probably was "Ready" on Feb. 25 at the latest. The next date change (while still saying "Ready"), is likely when they put P3 in the mail for you. If Montreal is at the same pace as my case two weeks prior, I'm going to guess your case updated around March 6 (let me know if my prediction is right) :P What date does it say under "Ready"?
NicoleS on 2019-03-08 said:
Also, Ds-160 does not trigger P3, it's an independent form, separate from the consulate's work.
blank avatar Des N Jin on 2019-03-09 said:
Thank you for the information. I checked, it says ready First Ready on Feb 21 and second Ready on March 4. You are right :-) It says "Your case is ready for you to schedule an interview at the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal." So now I can contact them to schedule interview time? Or wait for other paper to arrive What about this package 3 and 4 ? it comes later after I schedule appointment and prepare DS-160 form?
NicoleS on 2019-03-09 said:
You have to send them the P3 documents. It's a copy of the signed P3 checklist (which is available online), scan of your passport page, and ds-160 confirmation. Your P3 letter will likely arrive in the mail early next week if you prefer to wait for that but you can also send those docs on Monday and it should be fine. So long story short, whether you wait for the letter or not, if you haven't started the DS-160, do that this weekend for sure. :) Have the P3 docs ready and either email them on Monday, or wait for the letter, it's up to you.
NicoleS on 2019-03-09 said:
p.s. here is the website that the P3 letter gives you to download the P3 instructions: https://ca.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee/ Scroll down to step 2 for the P3 Instructions Letter. Yes, March 2016 is the current version.

Hi Nicole, It is getting so close for you guys. :-) already in april your interview. Exciting !! I got package 3 letter. I did submitted DS-160 Forms. ( I have 2: for me and my son). Do you know Where do we pay for DS-160? I can't find. Do we pay before returning packet 3 or after on interview.?
blank avatar Des N Jin on 2019-03-15 said:
I was just looking at vacination list. Do u have all of those?
NicoleS on 2019-03-15 said:
DS-160 is free :) You pay the visa interview fee right before you book (it's all in P4 that you'll get by email after you send P3 docs. I'm all up-to-date on the vaccines. I also got bloodwork done to prove I had the chicken pox before so I don't need the varicella vaccine. The ones you require depends on your age. Scroll down to Table 1: https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/civil/vaccination-civil-technical-instructions.html

Ds-160 Free ??!! that is nice surprise. :-)) Because we are Canadians? Ok, gonna look at that table 1 Thank you for your help!! From what city is your guy from? I see you applied at California center also.
NicoleS on 2019-03-16 said:
It is free for everyone, so it's not country specific. He is in Virginia :D. Yours? Actually nearly all K1s go through California. Some go through Vermont (I think) but those are usually cases where there are criminal convictions involved.
blank avatar Des N Jin on 2019-03-16 said:
My guy is in Arizona, Phoenix. I like hot weather. Here i am in Vancouver. But I saw it says ds-160 is 160$ and for K1 applicant is $260. hmm.
NicoleS on 2019-03-16 said:
Nope it's definitely free. The fee you are referring to is the k1 visa application fee, which is $265 USD, and it is due right before you can book your interview.

HI Nicole, I am about to send my packet 3, but have one doubt. The note : intent to marry should be dated with 30 days of interview. How it is possible? When U sent them Packet 3 checklist did you marked this checbox? ( that you have this Intent to marry note) Or it can be left blank? I do have it, but i do know that it is within 30 days of interview?

Hi. First, let me say how great this forum is and how everyone is so helpful in sharing information. I am Canadian and my fiancé is from Michigan. This Monday (March 18/19) he received the email from NVC advising the file was being sent to Montreal and providing the MTL #. We are being proactive while awaiting the P3 and getting things in line. Can we complete the DS-160 now or do we physically need the P3 before we can start? We called NVC on Wednesday morning to inquire about how to change my address since I moved after filing the I-129F and we were told to contact the Montreal Consulate since our file had already been sent. I guess we made the “Tuesday” mailing I have heard mentioned on other posts. So if we can do the DS-160 now I would prefer rather than waiting. Any advice is so appreciated. Thanks in advance.
NicoleS on 2019-03-22 said:
Hi Lori, you can start the DS-160 now, but do not submit it until after the 'second ready'. I changed addresses and after my case was in Montreal (after the 'first ready') I emailed them about the address change. They confirmed my new address over email...but they sent P3 the next week it to my old address anyways. This wasn't a huge deal for me because my old address was my parent's place, but still annoying. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Hi Nicole, When do we pay fee 265$ and where? i still didn't get my packet 4 yet. though i have sent it a week ago. Is the site to check the status? thank you for you r time :-)
blank avatar Des N Jin on 2019-03-27 said:
is packet 4 comes by email or in mail?
NicoleS on 2019-03-27 said:
P4 comes by email and in that email it'll give you the link and that's where you pay the $265 (USD). You should hear back anytime, I got my P4 by email ~ 24 hours after sending in P3. Did they ever email you to say they received your P3 docs?
blank avatar Des N Jin on 2019-03-27 said:
yes, I saw that you got it next day.:-) Thats why I started wondering why is mine didn't arrived yet. yes, I got that email next day. but nothing since then. I thought maybe i should pay in order to get packet 4. I emailed to montreal visa IV asking what is the status. Also checked the status online it says NO STATUS. that is bugging me now.
NicoleS on 2019-03-27 said:
It shouldn't say no status. Are you checking under "Immigrant visa"?

yes. i do. I emailed them yesterday, why I didn't get my packet 4. and the emailed me back saying because I didn't pay 265$ fees yet. So I guess I will need to pay first in order to get packet 4. I am gonna do it right now
blank avatar Des N Jin on 2019-03-28 said:
Do you have a phone # to call directly to consulate for K1 visa. I found one 416-595-1700 but it general and not for visak1. So frustrated here :-(
NicoleS on 2019-03-28 said:
I'm so confused. You can't pay the $265 (and schedule your interview) until they give you P4 by email. I've heard the only way to contact them is by email. If they are telling you to pay, they must've already sent you P4.

Here is how the P4 email starts (it's a long email, so I won't copy the entire thing): This office has completed the review of the below-referenced immigrant visa case. You are now ready for an interview at the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal, where all interviews for immigration to the US from Canada are processed. This letter provides information on the next steps you must take to continue with your immigrant visa case. Schedule your visa interview appointment Please visit https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/iv/information/contact_us to obtain information online or via telephone concerning scheduling an interview appointment for you and those family members included in the petition. If you have not previously registered your information and selected a Canadian Postal Corporation (CPC) courier location on this website, please do so now. You must have the Passport Number, Date of Birth, Nationality, MTL case number, and visa category for each applicant (principal applicant and all family members, including children) ready in order to access the website. When prompted to select “Trip Purpose”, you must choose ‘Permanently Immigrate to the US.’ After entering your information, you will be prompted to select an appointment time for you and your family.

Yes, I got that after. :-) They scheduled appointment themselves before I got packet 4. On the medical envelope do the stated when is the interview?

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
