Comments : Receiving my visa took forever because there was a Canada Post strike preventing mail from moving for over a month, so I finally caved and drove to Montreal to pick up my visa in person, as it was the only option to get it, a few days later I left for the US, and entry into the US was pretty simple, I handed over the documents that instruct you not to open, and my passport. The officer took my finger prints, took a picture of me, asked what my fiancé's name was, where I would be living, what my wedding plans were, and then she joked and asked if I had ever seen the show 90 Day Fiancé, asked if I was declaring anything in my luggage, then she just looked at a few of the documents and did her thing, then wrote my 90 day expiration date into my K1 visa and sent me on my way. It was very quick and simple!

Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 20, 2018
Embassy Review : It was a pretty short and seamless experience if you are prepared. I actually think I was over prepared, because I didn’t even need to show them half the documents I brought, but I think it’s smart to bring as much evidence as you can just encase they request it. I entered the building at 8:15am for my appointment at 8:30am. I was greeted by an officer who asked for my passport, she then gave me a laminated sheet with a number on it and instructions of the order of specific documents you need to have ready before your appointment. I went through security and then took the elevator to the 19th floor. I sat in the waiting room for around 45 minutes before they called my number and was instructed to go to a specific window. The woman there then asked for the documents that were listed on the laminated sheet, asked me a few questions to make sure the information from my file was still up to date, and then took my finger prints and I was instructed to go sit back down and wait to be called for my interview. Around an hour and a half in total of waiting I was once again called to another window where a very friendly woman greeted me and asked me a few of what I thought were pretty simple questions along the lines of:
- When and how did you and your fiancé first meet?
- When did you first meet in person?
- Have you or your fiancé ever been previously married?
- Do you have any wedding plans?
- Have you ever lived anywhere other than Canada?
- Where will you be staying in the USA?
- Have you ever visited anywhere other than Arizona? (because I previously answered Arizona)
- What was your longest stay in the US?
- Have you ever been denied entry at the border?
And then she told me everything looked good, handed me an invitation sheet to the US and said “Welcome to the United States, we are approving your case” and then told me that my passport and visa would be mailed within 2 weeks, and she instructed me that I had 90 days to marry my fiancé once I enter the US. She was very friendly and easygoing, which I was honestly not expecting, I thought they would be somewhat intimidating, but everyone was extremely friendly.
Rating : Very Good

Congratulations! Thanks for your comments.. just wondering if you were ever asked to provide the I-864 form along with the I-134?

Thanks! I was asked for the I-134 but not the I-864. I believe that form is to be filed after you enter the US, marry your fiance within the 90s days and you will include it when you file for adjustment of status (form I-485)

Great! Thank you. For the docs related to the I-134 do they have to be originals or can they be copies?

Fill out the form and make sure it's signed with the sponsor's original signature, as for the supporting documents she only asked me for his previous year tax return and W2, and those were both just photocopies.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
