Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 16, 2019
Embassy Review : We were the first to arrive and all of us who came early formed a line outside until they opened. At 7am a lady came outside to verify who was there for the interview and whether or not we had any items that were not permitted such as cell phones, any electronics, or basically anything except the documents they needed.

We followed the lady inside and immediately had to go through a security checkpoint and a metal detector. She then led us upstairs to a room full of chairs and gave us a paper to fill out and another paper that listed everything we would need and in what order to organize the documents. We gave the documents to her and she asked us to transfer to the next set of chairs.

Eventually our names were called to go up to one of the many numbered windows where a lady asked us basic questions to confirm our information. We then had to sit back down to wait until we were finally asked to go into the room to be interviewed.

The lady who interviewed us was very nice and friendly. She first asked what language we preferred to be interviewed in. I asked for portuguese but when she saw only one of us understood it and that I could understand english she told us she would do the interview in english. She asked us only a few questions like ‘how did we meet’, ‘when did we meet’, ‘how many times did we meet in person’, ‘if we had been previously married’, and whether or not I, the beneficiary, had been to America before. After that we were told we had been approved and not to get married before we went to America. She also said we had 90 days upon my arrival to get married and that I would have my passport back within 10 business days.

Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.

** Not all cases are transfered
